Bullard-Buchanan soccer title rematch looking good

Could we be seeing a rematch between Bullard and Buchanan for the Central Section Division I girls soccer championship? It's a real likelihood.

Bullard, as the top seed, beat No. 2 Buchanan 3-0 last year for its first championship since 1985. Of course the Knights had Lynn Williams, The Bee's Player of the Year, for that one. She's now at Pepperdine doing her thing.

Today, top-ranked Buchanan blanked No. 2 Clovis North 2-0 to win the Tri-River Athletic Conference championship. Across town, defending section champion Bullard took care of Memorial 2-0 to capture the County/Metro Athletic Conference title.

Buchanan is 17-2-1 and Bullard 10-3-2. And these teams boast the premier players in the Valley in the Bears' Elise Krieghoff (headed to Cal Poly) and the Knights' Cassi Fasi. Krieghoff has 25 goals and 14 assists, Fasi 16 goals and 8 assists.

Playoff seedings and pairings come out Saturday, and I wouldn't want to be on that committee deciding which team gets the No. 1 seed. But that probably won't matter because they'll be Nos. 1 and 2 and, if all goes well, won't play each other until they reach the championship.
