Fresno State gets another chance in the NIT Season Tip-Off on Tuesday night, playing SMU at Maples Pavilion. And while the offense remains a work in progress, the Bulldogs will have to focus on their defense after some lapses allowed Stanford to hit 64.7 percent (11 of 17) of its shots in the second half of a 75-59 loss to the Cardinal.
''We have to have a better effort defensively,'' Coach Rodney Terry said. ''I mean, we can't let a team shoot 64 percent in a half and expect to win the game. We have to buckle back down defensively and get some stops and put it on our defense. We'll work through our offense and we'll get better again as each game goes along in terms of what we're trying to do.''
The Bulldogs' had glimpses at potential on the offensive end against Stanford, starting with Kevin Olekaib, who scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half. Kevin Foster started in place of Grant Hefeng and knocked down a 3-pointer on his first shot, but finished 3 of 8, scoring eight points, and did not score in the second half before fouling out. Jonathan Wills hit a 3-pointer and scored off three offesnive rebounds.
