Fresno State basketball coach Rodney Terry has been busy on the recruiting trail this month. As of last night, the first-year Bulldogs coach was scouting tournaments in Las Vegas.
He said he's been to Indianapolis, Dallas, LA and Vegas and has some other areas he and his staff have to hit on the west coast before this 10-day recruiting period is up.
He said "putting an eyeball on kids is huge," especially since he and his staff arrived to Fresno this April.
"The timing of when we came on board didn't give us a chance to see as many young prospects," he said. "We're seeing lots of prospects we didn't get an opportunity to see in the spring. ... it's helped our staff as a whole to get a handle on who are the top guys not only in our area but throughout the country that we're trying to attract to Fresno State."
He said the overall response to Fresno State on the road has been good and he's hoping to build upon the name recognition. He has not received any commitments "at the moment" and declined to share the number of offers he's handed out.
"I won't get into numbers, but we've let them know we have interest in them," he said.
Terry's targeting size for the 2012 class. The only big man the Bulldogs have on the roster for 2011 is Daquan Brown, a thin 6-10 forward from Barstow Community College.
"It's an area we're trying to address," he said. "Hopefully we'll have some success in doing that."
