Yahoo! columnist Jason King came out with a list of good and bad hires and Fresno State landed on the positive side, with the hiring of former Texas asst. Rodney Terry dubbed "good".
Writes King: "The former Texas assistant was bound to get a head-coaching job eventually. Year after year, his name was mentioned for various openings throughout the country. There's a reason for that. Terry is an excellent recruiter who has been a vital part of Texas' success the past nine seasons. He was one of two strong finalists for the job along with standout Ohio State assistant Jeff Boals."
Terry's recruiting chops are being tested as I write this because he's being called on to fill roster holes in a short amount of time to try and raise the Bulldogs from last season's 14-17 mark. And he's doing it while still searching for assistant coaches, too. He has named one asst. coach -- Michael Schwartz, an asst from the U of Miami thought to be the Bulldogs' new No. 2 asst -- but stlll needs two others.
King also talks about other schools and job openings from around the nation and comments about how sometimes ADs don't make the "logical" hire because it makes them feel weak. Interesting observation about the politics of hires.
