The awards banquet for the Fresno State men's basketball team has been canceled, former coach Steve Cleveland said Monday.
The annual celebration, scheduled for April 11 this year, is usually attended by the public, but Cleveland, who was relieved of his coaching duties last week, said the players requested it be more intimate this season. They'll meet more privately at Cleveland's home after the Final Four, he said.
Though the banquet won't go as planned, team workouts did Monday with what appeared to be a few notable exceptions.
Sophomore Greg Smith, junior Tim Steed and redshirt sophomore Givon Crump were not seen with the team Monday when players were observed doing endurance training. Smith announced last week that he is turning professional.

Fresno State certainly does not need Wahlberg or FCC coach. The system basketball is not for NCAA and the
players will revolt against it everytime. Fundamental
basketball is what it is about. Sure you win some games
but the players go no where and I mean nowhere. So many
good Central players have not played ot transferred because of this garbage basketball. Fresno State has produced talent to the NBA in the past but with system basketball it will not happen. If it is so great why aren't the national and So Cal teams playing it, because it is a fantasy.
