NBA rookie Paul George is headed back to town for Saturday's Fresno State home game against UC Riverside, adding to the homecoming feel the game already has.
Riverside has two former Bulldogs on its staff: former Washington High coach and Bulldog assistant Vonn Webb and former walk-on Chris Brazelton. The Highlanders also boast a player with Fresno ties, former Clovis West High forward Elliott Berry. (Originally an academic non-qualifier, Berry went the Juco route before landing in Riverside. He is averaging 6.4 points and four rebounds in his first season at the Division I level.)
George (pictured courtesy AP) became the highest NBA draft pick in Fresno State history last summer when he went as the No. 10 pick to the Indiana Pacers. He averages 8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.9 steals and 18.5 minutes per game in a reserve role. The NBA is on its All-Star break this weekend.
