"Greg Smith getting into a little foul trouble really hurt them and we were able to attack them inside and score some baskets," Idaho coach Don Verlin said. "I really thought that was the difference in the game."
Smith picked up his 3rd foul with 17:08 to play in the second half. He often did not cover Kyle Barone from then on (Barone finished with 18 points) and when Smith was forced to guard the post, he couldn't be as aggressive. The Bulldogs' other post defenders didn't do a great job down low either.
The Vandals scored 26 points in the paint in the second half. During their 14-3 run, the Vandals scored 10 points in the paint.
