CVC rivals set to get it on

Fresno City will put its No. 8 state men's basketball ranking and 9-0 Central Valley Conference record on the line tomorrow in Visalia.

The Rams lead the Giants by one game in the standings.

If any team is going to beat Ed Madec's Rams, it will be College of the Sequoias, which is more talent in its first eight players, greater height and now the homecourt advantage.

Fresno City won the first meeting 81-76 in overtime in the Rams' gym. But only after blowing a 19-point halftime time and recovering in the extra period. The Giants figured out Fresno City in the second half -- cutting down the turnovers and attacking the rim -- and that should carry over in the rematch.

Believe me, it's going to be a wild night in that bandbox gym. Fans are seated a few feet from courtside, the place gets steaming hot and the noise level is deafening at times. In short, it's a great atmosphere for the conference's top two teams to tangle with so much on the line.

If you go, better get there early to get a seat.

My prediction: COS is primed to exact revenge. 89-81 Giants. But even with a share of first, Fresno City's co-championship will be its ninth straight CVC title.
