Two of the Central Section's most veteran football coaches -- John Yavasile and Pat Plummer -- are set to match wits tonight as 10th-seeded Redwood faces No. 7 Hoover at McLane High in a Division II playoff game.
And both are closing in on the end of their careers at this point.
Yavasile told The Bee in September that he plans to coach at least through next season, and then reevaluate his plans. Yavasile said he would retire from teaching after the 2010-11 school year.
And word here in the press box says Plummer wil go two more seasons.
So those of us here braving the rain tonight are witnessing one of the final playoff runs for these two successful coaches.
The winner of this game earns a date next Friday at second-seeded El Diamante, the reigning division runner-up and one of the division's most successful teams over the past three seasons.
