Rams vs. Giants in JC football showdown

It's been years since Fresno City and College of the Sequoias played a meaningful football game in the Valley Conference.

That changes Saturday night in Visalia, where the Giants meet the Rams at Mineral King Bowl at 7 p.m. in a clash that could very well decided the conference championship.

Both teams are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference. Sequoias upset host Reedley 30-28 last week, limiting the Tigers to 72 yards rushing and 166 total offense. The Rams beat up on visiting West Hills 41-14 for their fourth straight win and third by a lopsided score.

Fresno City is ranked No. 5 in Northern California and Sequoias is No. 10 with a bullet and a three-game winning streak.

The Rams lead the series 35-25-2 and have won nine of the past 10.
This game will match Fresno City's potent offense against Sequoias' defense, ranked No. 11 in the state.

Fresno City is led by QB Emmanuel Lewis (893 yards passing, 11 TDs), RB Antoin DeWalt (305 yards, 4 TDs) and receivers Isiah Barton, Roddrick Hall and Arkeem French, who have combined for over 500 yards and 10 TDs.

Sequoias freshman Brant Botill has rushed for 100 yard two straight games. QB Chris Mayabb has completed 62% of his passes for 843 yards and 6 TDs. The Giants defense has held teams three straight weeks to under 200 total yards.

If it comes down to the last play, give the Giants a decided edge. Earvin Gonzalez, who kicked three field goals against Reedley, is 6 for 7 this year.
