National rankings for 7 section wrestlers

Seven competitors from the section are listed among WIN Magazine's rankings for the nation's top 20 wrestlers in each weight division.

Selma's Alex Cisneros and Madera's James Cook share the highest ranking for a section wrestler with Cisneros No. 7 at 112 pounds and Cook seventh at 171. Cisneros is the defending state champion at 103 pounds, while Cook was fourth at 160 pounds.

Other ranked section wrestlers are Clovis West's Zach Zimmer (No. 12 at 119), Clovis North's Vince Rodriguez (No. 20 at 119), Bakersfield's Bryce Hammond (No. 16 at 160), Buchanan's Martin Fabbian (No. 17 at 160) and Clovis' Tommy Burriel (No. 18 at 189).

All earned state medals last season with Rodriguez third at 112, Zimmer fourth at 112, Fabbian second at 152, Hammond fourth at 152 and Burriel sixth at 189.

Wrestling season opens Nov. 30, with the first major local tournament -- the Clovis West Shootout -- set for Dec. 11-12.
