San Jose State can't stop the run (118th in the nation against it). Fresno State runs really, really well (5th in the nation in rushing).
This appears to be a mismatch from miles away.
The Spartans (1-4, 0-1 WAC) have played some tough competition this season in taking on then-No. 4 USC, then-No.17 Utah and a pretty good Stanford team. Thing is, they lost to all of them, and were pounded by both Stanford and USC by a combined 98-20. The Spartans have also lost to Idaho.
Their lone win comes against FCS Cal Poly. So frankly, I don't want to hear about how San Jose State is a good team. They haven't shown themselves to be a good team this season.
The Spartans are not like Fresno State (2-3, 1-1), which racked up a 1-3 record early this season playing good teams TOUGH. Fresno State did not get stomped by ranked Cincy or Boise State and they did not get pounded by a pretty good Wisconsin team. All of the games were decided in the fourth quarter.
This is not an endorsement of Fresno State as a great team, more an endorsement of reality. Should the Bulldogs win tonight -- and I'm expecting them to do so by at least 14 points if not 20 -- it will NOT be a quality win.
I don't care how many people whisper "rivalry" in my ear. WAC opponents or not, state schools or not: I don't care. Fresno State has won 14 of the last 15 contests between these two teams.
If the Bulldogs DON'T win tonight, it will mean another let down occurred.
