I know Fresno State's game at Illinois is far off -- Dec. 5 to be exact -- but a change is in the works for the Illini.
Illini QB Juice Williams, who has struggled mightily through four games this season, is being benched in favor of backup Eddie McGee for Saturday's game against Michigan State.
Coach Ron Zook told WDWS Radio in Champaign on Monday that he hopes McGee will give the Illini (1-3, 0-2 Big Ten) a spark. Williams ranks last in the Big Ten in pass efficiency and has thrown four interceptions and only one touchdown. (For those asking why can't Pat Hill do the same for the 1-3 Bulldogs, FS QB Ryan Colburn ranks 61st in the nation in pass efficiency and has 7 TDs with 7 INTs. Williams' efficiency rating is so poor he's not in the top 100.)
Zook says he isn't sure if moving McGee to starter is the right move but he's willing to give it a try. He says he considered pulling Williams during Illinois' 35-17 loss to Penn State on Saturday.
McGee has played extensively in his time at Illinois. He played most of last month's win over Illinois State after Williams left with an injury.
