Former Fresno Falcons center Glen Gulutzan (rightSPT_KLH_FALCONS_GULLS1.JPG, getting his jersey tugged by a San Diego Gulls player in 2003) is moving up in the world of hockey.

Gully, as he was known to teammates and fans, made the jump to the American Hockey League as coach of the Texas Stars in their inaugural season after a six-year run with Las Vegas of the ECHL.

Gulutzan, 37, played six years for the Falcons and set a record with 80 assists in a 110-point season in 1996-97. He was a player/assistant coach for a few years, too.

At Las Vegas, he took the Wranglers to the playoffs all six years, including a run to the Kelly Cup championship series in 2008.

He has the Stars, the affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, at 5-2-0-2 and tied for second place in the AHL West Division.
