Good luck, Richie

One of the first rules you learn as a sports writer is that there's no cheering from the press box. Stay neutral. Keep your feelings out of a story.

I will, however, be doing some rooting tonight. I'll be rooting for Richie Coppenbarger as he leads the Porterville High football team against Delano in an East Yosemite League game.

Well, I won't actually be at Jamison Stadium covering that game (I'm at the Kingsburg-Dinuba), so perhaps the rules of no cheering don't apply when you aren't actually in attendance. But I'll be rooting for Coppenbarger from afar.

I wrote about Coppenbarger, who is returning to the field for the first time tonight after being diagnosed recently with testicular caner, in Friday's Bee.
