Fighters at the Lindsay Boxing Club -- located inside McDermont Field House -- are in for a treat Friday as former light middleweight champion Fernando Vargas is scheduled to pay a visit.

Vargas is in talks with the people who run McDermont Field House -- a 172,000-square foot sports and entertainment facility that features everything from soccer fields and basketball courts to a boxing gym and fitness center -- about promoting a professional boxing card there in 2010.

Vargas will be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans between 6-9 p.m. Friday. Admission to McDermont Field House, located at 365 N. sweet Brier Ave in Lindsay, is $4.50.

Vargas went 26-5 during an 11-year career, stepping into the ring with the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Felix Trinidad and Richard Mayorga. Since losing a majority decision to Mayorga in November of 2007, Vargas has focused on promoting fights, including a card scheduled for Nov. 6 at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas that will feature Zab Judah.
