The more sports grow, the more I lose interest.
Major League Baseball is staging the November Classic. The NFL's Super Bowl is Feb. 7. NBA and Stanley Cup champions are now crowned in June.
Sports seasons have blended into one another like tie-dye shirts and white underwear in a washing machine.
The Little League Baseball World Series, for goodness sakes, chews up as much summer as it can, keeping the kids out of the first few weeks of school.
You know what's to blame. TV, of course. Seasons are lengthened, playoffs are expanded, all for the convenience of TV, not for the teams, the players, coaches, fans
and viewers.
It's nice that TV shows these games, don't get me wrong. Right now I'm getting most of them for free -- cable withstanding -- but I fear that in the not to distant future people will be paying through the nose to get these major sporting events.
When that day comes, I go quietly into the night with a good book, a bag of potato chips and a Dr. Pepper on ice.
