Fresno State's volleyball team is hosting third-ranked Hawaii tonight and fans would be wise to eat early and not be fashionably late for the 8:30 match at the Save Mart Center.
The Rainbow Wahine's matches in the Western Athletic Conference -- except for New Mexico State -- are taking only an average of 1 hour, 18 minutes to wrap up.
Fresno State is making strides under second-year coach Lauren Netherby-Sewell -- 11 victories this season -- but Hawaii is in another universe on the volleyball court.
Hawaii has won all 44 matches against the Bulldogs. Taking just one set would be a monumental achievement. It did happened here in 2007, so anything is possible,
although this is a Rainbow Wahine team that's won 14 straight and appears to be getting stronger each match.
The Bulldogs will use this match as a gauge of their improvement, but that might be difficult to measure against such a formidable foe that is stronger in every phase of the game.
It will be a chance for Netherby-Sewell, though, to see in what areas her team falls short against such elite competition and try to narrow the gap through recruiting.
