We've got an interesting night of football brewing here at Central's beautiful Koligian Stadium.
The host Grizzlies - ranked sixth in the Central Section by The Bee - come into this one on a nice run having won three straight, a 41-27 victory over last season's Division II runner-up El Diamante, a 73-7 blowout of Sunnyside and a satisfying 24-3 triumph over defending Division I champion Clovis West.
Central (4-2) is fast, talented and gaining more and more confidence every week under second-year coach Casey Quinn. A win tonight could leave the Grizzlies all alone atop the Tri-River Athletic Conference if No. 8 Clovis West were to knock off top-ranked Buchanan. It's also possible both Central and Buchanan win tonight and stay on course for an epic Week 10 showdown at Veterans Memorial Stadium for the TRAC title.
Across the sideline will be a 16th-ranked Clovis East that's finding its way without coach Tim Murphy, who is taking a season sabbatical from coaching. After going 77-22 with two section titles, two runner-up finishes and six TRAC titles in Murphy's six seasons, the Timberwolves are off to a 3-3 start. Clovis East lost three of its first four before winning its past two, including a 31-0 victory over Clovis in its TRAC opener last week.
With or without Murphy, the Timberwolves expect to contend for the TRAC title. So do the Grizzlies. And the winner of tonight's game remains at the forefront in the running for that crown. Follow along with my lives scoring updates for tonight's games at blitz.fresnobeehive.com.
