Central has an exciting, 11th-ranked football team that has packed the bleachers at home, but traveling is another issue.

Sitting here at Veterans Memorial Stadium about 10 minutes before kickoff -- in a Tri-River Athletic Conference opener, and against perennial power Clovis West, no less -- I'm surprised to see that the Grizzlies have drawn but about 400 fans.

That's 10% of the Central Section's largest enrollment, by far.

And it's a beautiful night.
