Big block ... good early start

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Fresno State blocked its first FG or PAT since Nov. 2008 against Boise State to jump out to a good early start.

Ben Jacobs returned the blocked kick 67 yards to the Hawaii 8, and the Bulldogs gave it twice to Lonyae Miller, who scored from four yards out.

After the defense held, the Bulldogs drove and Ryan Mathews took a direct snap to run for a 19-yard score. He faked a handoff to Devon Wylie coming on an end around and took the ball up the middle. Hawaii (which missed 41 tackles vs. LaTech, according to reports) missed a tackle and Mathews scored.

Mathews at quarterback was used earlier in the drive and Wylie ran the end around for 14 yards.

That's a scheme I think will be used throughout the season.
