Quick slants from Week 0:
** Central (49-28 winner of Clovis North) is so deep in quickness the Grizzlies will be decidedly faster than Edison, which will visit Deran Koligian Stadium Sept. 18.
** Difficult to judge Buchanan's 50-7 rout of Sanger because the Apaches are so down. The Bears are off this week before going to Redwood Sept. 18. Meaning, a true read of Buchanan won't be made until back-to-back showdowns with Bakersfield (Sept. 25) and Edison (Oct. 2).
** Sunnyside's 22-21 win at Torrey Pines-San Diego, as shocking as it was exciting, does set up a trap for the Wildcats Friday at Sanger. This will test the discipline
and focus of Sunnyside, which will have difficulty ignoring the Apaches' 50-7 loss at Buchanan. But a warning to the Wildcats: Don't ignore Sanger's history either, and that includes a 9-0 all-time record against Sunnyside.
** Bullard's 41-0 rout of Merced was particularly impressive because the Knights played without Daniel Snelling, one of the best linebackers in program history. Bullard coach Donnie Arax said afterward that Snelling had a shoulder injury. Untrue. He was being disciplined for a practice tantrum directed toward his coaches.
