'Dogs rally to beat Hawaii

Fresno State staged a two-out seventh inning comeback and beat Hawaii 2-1 Friday at Bulldog Diamond to open a three-game WAC softball series.

Haley Gilleland hit a two-run single to make a winner out of sophomore lefty Morgan Melloh, who held Hawaii to four hits and struck out 15.

Melloh now has 712 career strikeouts and ranks fourth all-time in the Bulldogs record book. She takes aim now at No. 3 Robin Mackin, who struck out 771 in her two seasons before bolting to Nebraska. If Melloh can't catch Mackin this season, she's sure to do it in 2010 and also pass No. 2 Amanda Scott, who had 851 Ks. At the top of the list is Jamie Southern and her 1,321 strikeouts.
