Just when it looked like pitcher Morgan Melloh and the Fresno State softball team was headed from another extra-inning loss on Friday, two freshmen came to the rescue to beat Nevada at Bulldog Diamond.
Alexis Lujan got a one-out single and advanced to second on an error. That brought up Michelle Moses, who hit a hard one-hopper over the third baseman's head into left and scored Lujan for the 1-0 victory in nine innings.
Melloh has been victimized a lot this year by an anemic Bulldogs offense. But this time she was rewarded for her masterful 3-hitter with 14 strikeouts. She now has 807 Ks for her two-year career and is well on the way to smashing Jamie Southern's school record of 1,321 over a four-year career.
