Rare card find rekindles interest

So by now, anyone keeping up with local news knows that an extremely rare baseball card was found in Fresno and the story has sparked national interest (Click to read story Fresno collectors uncover rare 1869 baseball card). My question to serious collectors - how much would you pay to be the new owner of this card? Of course, condition is a big part of that equation, but it's pretty cool even if only in decent shape.

How many of you collectors out there have the disgusting memory of perhaps a Nolan Ryan rookie card chattering in the spokes of your bicycle as a kid? Or other horrible things we did to cards and toys as a child that are now worth hundreds and thousands?

Just hearing about this story has rekindled my interest in collecting. I had baseball, football and basketball cards from 1972 through about 1978 - I reiterate HAD. I sold a lot of the top dollar ones in the mid 90s and now wish I had kept them. Oh well, it was cool turning things that cost 10 cents as a kid into big dollars as an adult.
