One name that would be interesting to see return to Fresno should Pat Hill leave for Washington is Jim McElwain.
The former Fresno State OC was a big part of the success here last season and has been successful this season as the Alabama OC under Nick Saban.
Who else do you guys think should be on the list of candidates should Hill leave?

McElwain would be a very interesting choice. Would he return to the Bulldogs and if so how long would he stay if he started having success?
Someone's been drinking too much of Hill's WAC-brand Koolaid :-) Why would McElwayne leave Alabama for a head job at Fresno State?
It would have to be a mighty big paycheck, something Fresno State probably couldn't and wouldn't afford. The only Alabama coach they got a shot at stealing is Hoover High's coach from that reality tv show. But agreed, Mac would make a helluva choice. I know my choices are just as improbable, but what do you think about June Jones or Dorrell?
Is Trent Dilfer at all in the market for a Head Coaching job?
It has to be someone that builds the success Pat Hill has created. Someone that will keep his "Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere" mantra. Someone who recruits first in the Valley.
If Hill does leave, I truly hope the do not regress with their coaching.
Doesn't it feel good when the Bulldogs beat a BCS teams especially when its talent grown in the Valley. I believe it makes us feel more connected with the 'Dogs.
I truly hope Hill stays. It would be a great Christmas present. If not, McElwain would be an excellent choice. If they can offer him something close to what Pat Hill has now, I think he would come. He proved he's worth his weight last year.
"I truly hope Hill stays."
You have to be kidding? Why in the world would you hope Pat Hill stays at FS? I truly beleive people who support Pat Hill have never played a down of football in their life. These proponents of Hill are most likely working at a dead end job, perhaps middle managment and accepting of their average life. I compare Pat Hill supporters to Obama supporters. Both Hill and Obama have mind control over their constituants, they both attempt to control the media and create hype that people will blindly follow.
Alabama OC Jim McElwain? Hmmm, "Hi I'm Jim McElwain, I think I'll leave the #1 team in the nation with a HUGE multi-million dollar football budget, non-wavering booster support and freakish amounts of talent at my disposal to go a HUGE step backward to fickle Fresno fans who ALWAYS want something for nothing and will bail everytime the season gets tough.." Yea right, i'm sure he'll be banging on the door to come here and get some "head coaching experience" in the oh so powerful WAC. Nice try but I think not. He's the OC in the SEC folks...not going to come back to the WAC. Maybe when something in the PAC10 opens up, or the Big 12..but the WAC?
Nope, the only reason Pat Hill stuck around so long is he genuinely likes Fresno and has a loyalty to the program. He is one of the hardest working coaches in the nation who has had to constantly deal with low fan support, milking as much talent out of tier 2 recruits as possible, injuries and lack of depth, a woefully lame athletic budget and inadequate, aging facilities, Title 9, CSU-Fresno folks that are bitter and resentful of athletics, etc..
And through all that we still have a better APR than most of the PAC 10, MWC and all but Boise in the WAC Thanks to Pat and his emphasis on prepping his kids for life after football as well as competing on the field:
"Under Hill, the Dogs have produced 109 Academic All-WAC players. Over the last 11 seasons that's more than any other WAC school. The 2007 total of 16 Academic All-WAC selections is one better than the previous Fresno State record of 15 set in the 2005 season. Prior to Hill's arrival, Fresno State had only produced nine Academic All-WAC players. In the Hill era, the Dogs are averaging 9.9 Academic All-WAC selections per season."
No, sorry to say we won't be getting much better than Hill. We may go back to dominating our conference (after Boise jumps to the Mtn West) like we did back in the Sweeney days from time to time, but even those teams had 11-1, 10-2 seasons followed by 6-5, 5-7 etc..
Good Lord! I've even heard someone float the name Charlie Weis as if that's a good thing..yikes!!
We've beaten Washington, UCLA, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Virginia etc., all in the Pat Hill era and we should be proud that our team can and will play with anyone without fear or ever giving up (last Friday excepted).
Yes this season sucked and I mean sucked, but seriously let's not run Pat out on a rail just yet..truth be told there is hope for the future...the Brandstator era is over after all.
And sorry to bust your bubble "Fire the Truck.." but yes I did play Division 1 football, made All Conference at my position and do know a thing or two about the game. I also DID NOT vote for Obama whatever the heck that has to do with football and Pat Hill.
I personally feel it may be a better move for Pat to go to Washington as people here have gotten too sour, but what I said previously still holds true..Fresno fans are very fickle and want champagne on a beer budget in every sense of the word.
I can't believe that Fresno State has only finished in the top 25 once in Hill's 12 year tenure as HC.

No you've go to be kidding me! I truly believe people who want to get rid of Hill are those types who cannot get a date in high school and when a girl finally talk to them, they think they can snag the top cheerleader for prom.
The fact is that Bulldog football is better off with Hill than it was before. Getting rid of Pat Hill will only return this program to it's 'glory' days of dominating mediocre teams with no national exposure. Fresno State would fall off that map.
I'm just as upset as anyone that the Bulldogs are 7-5 and for good reason. I also understand that their kicker who has a cannon for a leg would easily have Fresno State in a lot better position. I believe he's much improved from the Wisconsin/Hawaii game. I understand that loosing McElwain to 'Bama hurt a lot more than most people believe. I understand that loosing Matthews is equivalent to the Dallas Cowboys losing Tony Romo. That's just one of the many big injuries that the Bulldogs suffered.
Considering all that has gone on this season, we are lucky to be in a bowl game, much was out of Pat Hill's hands.
Also, don't be upset because Obama won Fresno County and won by over 9 million votes nationally.
