Fantasy draft success, like fame, can be fleeting.
Take two examples from me, Bee sports copy editor Delton Lowery, of draft highs and lows:
Two years ago I made a bold move by passing over projected 1-2 Steven Jackson and Larry Johnson, who were still available, with the No. 2 pick in favor of LaDainian Tomlinson. The Chargers stud then rewarded fantasy owners that season by scoring all kinds of touchdowns and really becoming L.T.
But that fantasy team had woes at quarterback, so the following year I figured I'd correct that deficiency right off the bat by taking Drew Brees in the second round. Brees, in turn, started off cold and didn't heat up until it was too late for my team's playoff chances last season.
One instance was the result of being a bit lucky -- I had wanted then-reigning NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, but someone traded up to the No. 1 pick to get him, so I "settled" for L.T. as Alexander went on to get injured in Week 3 -- the other resulted in luck shining on someone else -- K2K had wanted Brees but had to "settle" for a guy named Tom Brady. We all know how that turned out.
What we at The Fantasy Buzz would like to know is how things have turned out for you in the past, or how you think they might go this season based on your draft.
Send us your draft stories, and we might even publish them in Sunday's edition of The Bee with The Fantasy Buzz.
If you have trouble adding comments to this blog, e-mail us at sports@fresnobee.com.
And in case you were wondering, K2K is the team of Bee sports reporter Ken Robison and assistant sports editor Kenny Lewis. Both, of course, never let me hear the end of my draft gaffe.
