One more down, one more to go. The U.S. defeated Argentina 101-81 in a semifinal game on Friday. Carmelo Anthony scored 21 to lead the U.S. team.

The U.S. men were hitting on all cylinders beating Spain 119-82 Saturday night to clinch the top seed in Group B. Eight players scored in double figures. Defensively, Spain was held to 39 percent shooting and turned the ball over 28 times.

The U.S. men's basketball team avenged a 2006 world championship loss to Greece with a 92-69 trouncing of the Greeks in the third game of pool play at the Olympic Basketball Gymnasium on Thursday. At 3-0, the U.S. men will face defending world champion Spain next on the schedule.

The U.S. men's basketball team got its second win (2-0) on Tuesday night running over Angola 97-76. From there, the Americans will face Greece, the team that stunned them two years ago in the semifinals of the world championship. Two days later comes a matchup with Spain.

When the 2008 Summer Games get underway in Beijing, the U.S. men's basketball team will have the glimmer of gold in mind. Anything short of the top prize would be disappointing.

In the first match on Aug. 10, the U.S. will face host China and NBA star Yao Ming.

The last time the U.S. won gold in men's basketball was 2000 in Sydney, Australia.

The U.S. easily handled team Canada in its first tuneup game and that was without LeBron James who sat out nursing an ankle injury. James joined team practice in Macau on Monday. James has been the most vocal about the team's goal and confidence level.
