I really dig goldfinches. I saw these in the backyard at a Fresno home where I was working on a story and photographed them flying around a feed sock.

The American Goldfinch is the state bird of New Jersey, Iowa and Washington -- popular bird! They are commonly attracted to backyard feeders and go for sunflower seeds and nyjer.

They look pretty patchy in winter but after they molt, they are really quite stunning.
