Laid off Gottchalks corporate employees gather for a group photo on their last day of work outside the local retailer's headquarters. After 105 years, Gottchalks is in liquidation. I was off that day, and my wife Doris, one of the laid off employees who worked there for 28 years, called and asked if I could come over and take a photo...at first I thought it was to be her small work group, but before I knew it, the majority of the former employees came out to be in the shot. After the photo was taken, and before the group went back to last minute packing up of belongings and collect their last paychecks, many stayed outside for some lasting hugs and tearful goodbyes...
