Imagine my surprise when one of my co-workers told me they saw a photograph I took on a city bus. Back in 2006 for Back Talk, a teen section in the newspaper, I photographed Karey Wedemeyer, a Fresno Fire Captain, who studied nursing and was a loan officer before becoming a firefighter. John Alvin, a Fresno Bee artist who had designed the page the photograph ran on, spotted it. So I was on the look out and then one day I saw the bus heading across town. Naturally I had to photograph it.

A few days ago I attended the funeral of a firefighter friend, Jack Reddemann, 82. I was as surprised as you must have been with this pic when I saw one of my old Bee photos in the slide show of mostly family snapshots run at the conclusion of the service. It showed Jack, an engineer at the time ("dry shirt fireman" he said) running the pumper during a training exercise at their drill tower.
