UPDATE
KMJ radio officials knock down the possibility of Ray Appleton leaving the top-rated station to run for Congress. Appleton will be at KMJ "for a good long time," station officials say.
Longtime KMJ radio host Ray Appleton suggested today on his Facebook page that he might run for Congress when he retires. Not sure if he's just toying with his listeners, but he definitely has name ID, and the possibility of an Appleton candidacy would make the Democrats around these parts very nervous. In fact, it probably would spoil their Thanksgiving dinner.
This is what Appleton says on his Facebook status report:
"Ok, here it is kids....Does your old "firiend" here run for congress run when he retires from radio? No, I am NOT saying when. I swore I'd never-ever do it. Lately, I have been consumed with the idiea. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? You do this when you retire from you career at a time when you do not need the job...? OR did I fall outta bed and hit my head?"
Appleton, 59, lives in Rep. George Radanovich's congressional district. Some conservatives would like to take out the Mariposa Republican, but it would be surprising if Appleton would challenge him. Because you don't have to live in the congressional district you run in, Appleton could challenge Democratic Rep. Jim Costa in the 20th District.
Now, announce it NOW!!!!
So the Raymond Loves Raymond Show can make a well-deserved departure.
If Ray does nothing more than aggravate libs, then it’s worth it all. There is a certain joy in poking fun at and tormenting liberals. They make it so easy! It ought to be a sport.
haha, when is the opinion page going to give you a blog. i'm entertained daily when you get the libs on this page all riled up. i'm surprised the bee hasn't banned you yet.
Why not start with a bang by de-throning Boxer?
City Council, State Legislature, Congress?
Best shot? State Legislature. Apparently Council is not on the plate.
Too self absorbed...he won't want to put in the effort necessary to do a good job.
Remember Ray was a Democrat before becoming Republican. When he started getting into various businesses he found the Democratic Party had left him and went to the far left radicals. I am now feeling somewhat of the same thing about the Republican Party. The radicals run off the moderates and those who do get elected turn out to be liberal such as our Governor. Libertarian?
Radical Republicans, those scallywags are always startin trouble. They can't be bought, they believe in God, They support the troops, They are opposed to socialism, and they didn't vote for Obama. What good are they anyway?
Another "entertainer" like Arnold or Autry? Give me a break!
I used to listen to Ray Appleton before he became politically inclined. Then KMJ some how became a media outlet for the right wing shows. So bashing the so called "Liberals" became a hit in the 90's. But since I don't have cable or the Dish I'll be content to just listen to the Fresno State football, basketball & baseball games on KMJ. Anyway Beck is going into politics! So if Appleton wants to be a congressman, it seems to be the latest craze!
Don't buy into Radical Republican montra! Democrats do believe in God, support the troops, and are not socialists.
Most the troops are Democrats anyway. You don't hear Democrats saying Republicanss are cowards for not enlisting as much as Democrats!
Chase...Dittos...if you want your calculator to melt down, count all the I,me,my,mines during the show and then multiply by the self serving commercials.
By all means the cons should run Ray. Most cons miss the point that politics is largely a matter of persuasion and compromise rather than simply preaching to the choir and trying to irritate the other guy. It would be a great education for Ray and his friends to have to get something done politically rather than the 'feel good' experience many get from one-liners on a radio show.
And just so the cons know, the thought of Appleton running hasn't made any Democrat nervous that I know of. Most don't pay much attention to him at all.
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
"Democrats do believe in God..." - Rich
Pondering: I’ve often wondered, who does a lib thank when they feel like expressing gratitude? They can’t thank the true God because God is superior to themselves and for the lib that’s just intolerable. They could turn inward and thank themselves, but that seems woefully insufficient. (But they probably do it anyways!).
This must be embarrassing for the lib. Of course, these days, libs do have a new "messiah" to thank - Obama the Magnificent! And libs do deem him worth of all glory and praises, as if a "god" himself.
Consider the following quotes of Obama and his fellow libs. It is painfully obvious that Obama thinks of himself only in messianic terms. (BTW, libs have their own trinity: "1. Multiculturalism 2. Militant Atheism 3. Ubiquitous Bureaucratic Regulation" - This might be a Michelle Malkin quote; I not sure who said it).
Obama’s messianic-like promises ...."the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal." (Obama's Nomination Victory Speech In St. Paul June 3, 2008). "... a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you MUST (emphasis mine) go to the polls and vote for Obama" - Lebanon, New Hampshire January 7, 2008.
"What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history" - Jesse Jackson, Jr.
"This is bigger than Kennedy. . . . This is the New Testament. ... I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often. No, seriously. It's a dramatic event." - Chris Matthews (the unbiased media, of course).
"We're here to evolve to a higher plane . . . he is an evolved leader . . . [he] has an ear for eloquence and a Tongue dipped in the Unvarnished Truth." - Oprah Winfrey
"Obama is standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of god." Newsweek’s Evan Thomas, June 6, 2009.
Well, I guess, mystery solved .... Libs, as they gather around their half-cooked, free-range turkey - or in absence of that, a vegan meal, will, in their best Deepak Chopra voice, bow and thank the "third Jesus," Obama.
Ron...Good for You.The less media one consumes the better.Take time to listen to your own thoughts and ideas...that small voice inside.
TC just how many hours a day listening to Rush and Fox News causes so much damage to your thought process?
"Pondering: I’ve often wondered, who does a lib thank when they feel like expressing gratitude? They can’t thank the true God because God is superior to themselves and for the lib that’s just intolerable."
Mr. Morgan, I really don't care about the posts that seem to do little but exchange hostilities (some are subtle some are not so subtle) but when did God bestow upon you any moral right to question people's relation to God. From the Gospel of Matthew; written in English that is free of thy and thou and not in English that nobody speaks.
(Jesus; Sermon on the Mount.)
"...But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you....he makes his sun shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain rain to those who do good and to those who do evil. Why should God reward you if you love only the people who love you? Even the tax collectors do that....Make certain you do not perform your religious duties in public so that people will see what you do....do not be like the hypocrites! They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the the street corners, so that everyone will see them...." (GOOD NEWS NEW TESTAMENT AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY NEW YORK.)
David...how cute and condescending but empty of thought.Your buddies in Sacramento and D.C.(libs) have obviously mastered the art of compromise and persuasion that have us in a death spiral on all levels. Thanks for enlightening us as to your own personal stupidity.
If anyone should run for congress, it is Alan Autry. It is evident George Randanovich has become a outdated fixture and Rep. Costa is controlled by the Democratic majority. Ray Appleton may mean well, but I think Alan Autry is more suited for the job
TC -- I visited the Reagan Presidential Library recently. The contrast between that great, self-effacing leader who was used to change the course of history and the current incompetent, self-absorbed president was stark indeed. No doubt, though, that Obama too will have an historical impact. Sends a shiver of fear down my spine.
BTW, Appleton for Congress? Heaven forbid!
Jen-
Thanks for the reminder of the visit to the Reagan Library. I've been there a couple times and it is a vivid reminder of the things that are great about America and the value of true American leadership. Reagan was the last great leader we've had as President- the others couldn't shine his shoes. After what I've been seeing in our current President, I think I'm due for a re-visit to the Reagan Library for a reminder of how great this country is.
With respect to Appleton going to Congress I think that is a bad idea also. However, I only know him through the 2-3 hours a week I catch him on KMJ and he comes across (to me) as an insecure little boy trying to get the approval of his parents. I don't think he has the temperament for Congress and I don't know what he would do when engaged in a debate without the benefit of a mute button to silence his opponent. If his character is different than his "on air" personality, I'd be willing to hear what his ideas are.
Joe...You're right,we only know Ray by his efforts on KMJ and maybe I was a bit hasty in not giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I don't think real Republicans spend their time liberal bashing nor do Democrats either. People who don't really have a valid argument but want to post something... anything... do. As for Ray Appleton, I don't think he would make such a good candidate. I also only know him from his talk show but he tends to latch onto issues that are hot at the time and doesn't look into long term consequences. My favorite example was a few years ago when Fresno was trying to get the Most Wonderful City or some such award. He adamantly preached how the city should be cleaned up, we need to take pride, etc. Then about a year later he was adamantly opposed and preaching about how the Ciy code enforcement shouldn't enforce the signage and advertising rules that keep business district from looking junkie. It was too hard on businesses to follow the rules that were in place (long before they started I might add). Can't have it both ways.. which is it? I'm just not impressed.
If they are not "Real Republicans" or "Real Democrats" then what are "They".I don't hear any "Liberal Bashing" being done by Democrats and any "Conservative Bashing"(widespread) by the left is not called "Bashing" at all...As for Appleton(based on my listening), he puts a lot more effort into marketing himself than he does subject matter so I rarely listen to him anymore...once in a while VDH pops up on KMJ and I will always make time tho hear what he has to say.
