Danny Tarkanian, who assisted his father, Jerry Tarkanian, in coaching the Fresno State basketball team, is back in Las Vegas and running for the U.S. Senate against majority leader Harry Reid, a Democrat. A poll released by the Las Vegas Review-Journal shows Tarkanian running 11 points ahead of Reid. Tarkanian, A Republican, had 49% of the vote to 38% for Reid.
Tarkanian, who is working in real estate, is a former UNLV basketball player, where his father also coached. Tarkanian may not be the only Republican running. Nevada Republican chairman Sue Lowden also may run. In a match=up with Reid, the polls shows Lowden with 45% of the voet to 40% for Reid. Lowden has not said whether she will run next year.
The poll was taken last week by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc., according to the Nevada newspaper. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus five percentage points.
I would be surprised if it were otherwise since Obama put Las Vegas on his custom tailored list of ineligible convention sites. I think he wanted to put Reid in a secure facility...inside government as Nevada Obamacare Czar.
I can't help thinking if Tarkanian replaces Reid all that will change will be the party label on the desk. I believe Reid is corrupt, playing the real estate game that Las Vegas government is notorius for. They've spent the last five years sorting out illegal deals that government officials have raked in millions for. Reid has had his part in that charade as well. Up jumps Tarkanian and all I see is more of the same. Corruption seemed to follow his "shark" of a father. I don't expect the apple to have fallen far from the tree. Tarkanian works in the Vegas real estate market. I'd be interested if he had any connection to the nefarious land deals that a good number of their government officials have lined their pockets with. I think a person's worth should go deeper than just being good at sports. Does Tarks? either one of them?
I met Harry Reid while he was still serving in the Hosue of Representatives. He was shallow then and remains so. I don't know Tark's kid but gather that he's a conservative fighter. Anything but Reid is better for both Nevada and America. Reid today, Pelosi tomorrow!
Don Corleone: I never wanted this for you. I work my whole life - I don't apologize - to take care of my family, and I refused to be a fool, dancing on the string held by all those bigshots. I don't apologize - that's my life - but I thought that, that when it was your time, that you would be the one to hold the string. Senator Corleone; Governor Corleone. Well, it wasn't enough time, Michael. It wasn't enough time.
Michael: We'll get there, pop. We'll get there.

I was stationed at Nellis AFB and lived in North Las Vegas for two years '76-'78. I took night courses at UNLV and used my ID to access the weight room after practice with the local AAU swim team. The fact is that I got alot of breaks from guys who knew I was from Fresno that really paid off for me, I owe those breaks to Coach Tarkanian. He has alot of personal capital in that town and I'm certain his son will benefit as I did, probably more.
With Obama making comments about restricting meetings in Las Vegas and Senator Reid not defending his states need for tourism revenue, I hope Mr. Tarkanian uses this fact to bolster his campaign and the liberal policies of the democratic party.
Fantastic observation. Looking forward to some new insight from you real soon.
Revelations about Candidate Tarkanian's gun control advocacy have given me pause. While I feel compelled to support him, the son of a man who couragiously explored the limits of toleration with under-priveleged but talented atheletes, I have just one question. What is more liberal than to turn your back on the Bill of Rights? As long as Republican Party endorses candidates who can't stomach the entire Constitution, they will continue to have limited claim as the steward of American values.
I had the opportunity to take a Political Science course from Danny's brother George. In regards to the above comment about fruit falling from the tree: if George is representative of the kind of fruit that is produced by their father, then Nevada will be better off, in my opinion, for having a Tarkanian in office.
