Plane bound for Armenia crashes, likely killing all 168 passengers

Mideast Iran Plane Crash.JPGThe Associated Press is reporting that a Russian-made Iranian passenger plane carrying 168 people crashed shortly after takeoff Wednesday, smashing into a field northwest of the capital and shattering into flaming pieces. All on board were killed in Iran's worst air disaster in six years, officials said.

This tragedy will undoubtedly have impact here in the Valley because its destination was the Armenian capital Yerevan. The central San Joaquin Valley is home to a large population of ethnic Armenians.

At Yerevan's airport, Tina Karapetian, 45, said she had been waiting for her sister and the sister's 6- and 11-year-old sons, who were due on the flight. "What will I do without them?" she said, weeping, before she collapsed to the floor.

Very sad day...

Too many plane crashes lately. Are they skimping on maintenance due to the economic crisis?

Which Economic Crisis...The Iranian economic crisis or the Democrat induced crisis in the USA.It was a Russian made Iranian passenger plane...I wouldn't blame this one on President Obama(who throws a baseball like a school girl).

Maintenance standards have actually improved due to the number of crashes. I think it is because the world's fleets are getting old. You can only rebuild something so many times before it stops working at top performance. Materials degrade, structural stress problems aren't always apparent, etc. In addition, I'm more apt to think personnel are working longer hours due to cutbacks or personal need for extra cash. That could up the number of crashes as well.

Sad day indeed.

Where have you been. The "economic crisis" is world-wide. Even if they call it something else.

"I'm more apt to think personnel are working longer hours due to cutbacks or personal need for extra cash...." I would file that under economics. You guys have a new female to pounce on. Lucky ME....poor eugenia1896. hahahaha!

Iranians said they use to buy US parts to fix planes but since the embargo they can not do it and blamed the US for the crash. BUT this does not make sense since it is a Russian made plane.

US was making after-market parts on Russian plane parts? I don't know about this industry. Word is they had problems with jet engines on this plane.

Brian get a life, you have to make everything a partisan slant?

Maybe the USA or Israel shot the plane down because they hate Iran so much. They just didn't understand there are many christians that live in Iran.
Just as there were in Iraq, prior to the USA invasion of Iraq. NOW? Christians are leaving the middle east in droves because of hostility toward them being associated with the westerner Christians.

Rich...like you,I currently have a great life and was just looking for a little clarification from Eugenia... planes crash for different reasons but an economy does because government injects itself into the economy(Democrat induced housing crisis).I know,I know...George W.Bush is responsible for any bad thing that has happened and will happen. We've been hearing that for 10 years and I suppose it will go on for at least 10 more and planes, trains and automobiles will continue to crash...I pray daily for a hedge of protection around myself and others and that includes my fellow bloggers...No partisan slant on that "Fellow Traveler".

It is a sad day when so many lives are lost. I pray for the families that had loved ones or friends on the plane. If the airlines are cutting maintanence and working people longer to make a buck then shame on them and may they carry the burden of it forever. I have recently purchased airline tics and they are certainly trying to make money.

Being ignorant is not a sin. But to make other people look stupid who are not ignorant that is a sin.

ECONOMIC: 1. pertaining to the production, distribution, and use of income, wealth, and commodities. 2. pertaining to an economy. 3. of or pertaining to the science of economics.
ECONOMY: among 9 definitions....the management of the resources of a community, country etc. esp. with a view of its productivity.
The Random House College Dictionary.

I don't understand the who and what about that "Fellow Traveler." I was told that you wanted to change, and I was there to accept it as fact. But you cannot change hard as you may try. What I don't understand is your assumption that your name-calling is being accepted as it were written on two stone tablets.

We are in a world economic crises, and the plane was Soviet made. Democrates in the US had nothing to do with it.

Blaming the either US political parties on the world economy is childish.

Yea maybe you'll stop with the name calling in your new life.

Since when do pilots intentionally launch aircraft in which they have no confidence?

Some suggest older pilots whose careers have now ended were better trained in actual flying rather than in simulators. The current generation of pilots are taught to rely entirely on highly automated systems.

They are trained to accept computer read-outs as infallibly correct.

The Brazil crash may have been caused by a technical problem that failed to warn the crew that the plane’s airspeed was at stalling point. Everyone on board may have been killed simply because the pilot failed to realise he needed to pour on some power.
