Is confidence in Obama slipping?

Obama_poll.JPGMaybe, according to the results of a new poll:

An Associated Press-GfK Poll shows that a majority of Americans are back to thinking that the country is headed in the wrong direction after a fleeting period in which more thought it was on the right track.

Obama still has a solid 55 percent approval rating - better than Bill Clinton and about even with George W. Bush six months into their presidencies - but there are growing doubts about whether he can succeed at some of the biggest items on his to-do list. And there is a growing sense that he is trying to tackle too much too soon.

The number of people who think Obama can improve the economy is down a sobering 19 percentage points from the euphoric days just before his inauguration. Ditto for expectations about creating jobs. Also down significantly: the share of people who think he can reduce the deficit, remove troops from Iraq and improve respect for the U.S. around the world, all slipping 15 points.

In what I'm sure is a less scientific poll, a related question has been posed in a Facebook poll, titled: If the 2008 Presidential Election were held today, would you vote the same way?

In that poll, 35% of the people who voted for Obama stand by their vote today. And 59.8% of the people who voted against him stand by the way they voted. More than 146,000 votes have been counted so far.

How do you think President Barack Obama is doing? Pleased as punch? Is it too soon to tell? Or are you disappointed in the direction in which he is leading our country?

Think he's doing fine.
(1) It's too soon to really tell, as you're not going to see 'drastic looking' improvements. (This is a really screwed up national system, -not a 2hr. long movie.)

(2) See point 1 when you're talking about the economy turning around, (right now we're looking at simply keeping the ship from totally sinking, then repairing, then bailing, (etc) --ain't nowhere nears 'racing mode.' He's been really clear that it may get worse before it gets better.

(3) A lot of people voted for (and against) Obama -(and probably the rest of the candidates) for reasons that are not logical, and more emotional, (so their dissapointment and their happiness,) are going to happen for reasons that aren't going to be answered by what good (or bad) things he has done, or will do, so public opinion polls, though very passionate? MAY be coming from a high-water mark of folks who han't a clue as to what they're looking at.

He's not screwing stuff up,
He's making good choices,
and he's correcting a lot of things that will reveal in time.

I'm okay with that.

I’m not disappointed because I expected the worst from Obama. I am surprised, and a bit relieved, at how fast it’s unraveling. The One rode in with his tilted chin to radically change America.

What did you expect from a man with such a shallow resume and no managerial experience? He doesn’t know how to lead and is letting the radical left wing run the agenda. Of course, he agrees with them.

People are exhausted and petrified of the future. Having to cope with the enormity of the cap and trade nonsense and changing health care as we know it is just too much to handle. Everyday his administration plans on taking over another part of our lives.

The fascinating part is that the MSM is in a quandary over how to report the bad news about their Messiah they have exalted for over a year. That part is going to be interesting.

I'm glad Obama got elected, if it means putting the socialist agenda where it belongs once and for all. Americans will no longer tolerate the game the game now that it has been clearly exposed. This could have gone on for another thirty years had we not the opportunity to observe him in the clear shining light of day.

Since you are relieved that things are "unraveling" Fran B , you can sit back and enjoy, for the next three and one half years, the nation's difficulties. Some were inherited, some are the doing of the incumbent administration. But each of the states is sending their elected representation to the Capitol. We are not subjects of a king or dictator. I may be misconstruing the meaning of you message, but relieve is not the concept that comes to my mind. Barack Obama was not my favorite candidate, but I would have preferred Mr. Brink to Mc Cain/Palin. The candidate of my choice dropped out of the race. Let's practice the good old saying....write to your congress man. And if President Obama is being set up to fail, whatever he does or not does is purely academic. But I am looking to the elected members of the two Houses to vote for what is right for the nation. The president in this republic does not make the laws...and WE the People must not forget for a moment that this is a republic.

The reason I am relieved it's unraveling is that I believe that his programs and agenda will drive our country further down in prosperity and remove many of the freedoms we now enjoy.

I don't want the country to fail but following Obama's plans will push our country in that direction.

I don'h have to write to my congressman. I know how Devin Nunes will vote and who's side he is on - the country's. Now as to our senators, that's anonther story.

If I had to make a guess, I would say that you are relatively young and a bit naive. Have no fear, life will kick that out of you pretty soon! I once was young and a liberal; Now, I’ve learned to look beyond the carefully constructed and devious “masks" that politicians (and others) have put on to cover their true agendas. It’s called growing up; It’s called thinking; It’s called looking at both sides of the issues, and instead of taking a person’s words at face-value, looking at them through wiser and discerning eyes and then making a determination on what is true and what is not.

I can tell you what Obama will say and do tonight without even hearing him (I see no reason to listen to him - I don’t enjoy being lied to by politicians and I’m not a masochist).

He will be in his "caring and compassion" mode; He will rattle on and on about his overwhelming concern and compassion for the common man; It will be all about you and his care and compassion for you and how unfair others are to you; by contrast he will vilify those rich, wicked, oppressors of the masses (you know, those that make more than 40 Gs a year); he will make them pay, for "the good of all." In his best Marxian mode - "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need..." he will promise to take from those evil, rich fat-cat, capitalist, job-producing companies to give to the non-producers. He will do it in a way that will seem compassionate, reasonable and fair, all the while, not meaning a word of it. He will be praised to the heavens for his oratorical skills, his perceived compassion will cause the tears to flow, children will swoon, women will faint, Oprah will once again anoint him as, "The One," media adulation will make the unknowing public think of the 2nd Coming, the heavens will open and the glory will fall (well, at least as far as the Dems are concerned). And it will all be a lie, a con.

And Bush, O my, Bush will continue to get more of the blame. It’s his fault, you know, Obama may be making the decisions, but it’s really Bush’s fault.

Most will miss his main point, his agenda. Most will miss the fact that he is the quintessential liberal fascist. Most will miss the real reason for his devious ways, the ham-fisted attempt to Stalinize our healthcare system courtesy of Democrat shock troops and jack-booted, Neo-Nazi thugs.

now i think i will actually tune in to see what obama has to say for the sole reason of seeing how right TC Morgan is.

Thanks, TC...you just saved me 30 minutes of my life...and you are probably spot-on!!

Listen Fran B, the Checks and Balances gives the president actually very few constitutional powers. That the people are allowing the president more and more powers is the people's problem. The real power in this republic is with Congress. The president recommends legislation, Congress passes legislation. The president can veto legislation but Congress can override that veto. The president can only ask for money, Congress allots the money. The president is the sole commander of the armed forces, can make foreign treaties, but Congress can veto them. It is only fairly recent that the American people allowed the president to go to war without congressional consent. It is the everyday people like on this blog who ascribe powers to the president which he really does not have. And this is dangerous, because it is amazing what power is in( no more than) tradition that has neither legal nor constitutional basis. Tell a powerful person long and often enough that he or she is infallible, they may become to believe it. Fran B, and all the Obama lovers or haters, he is only the president of the United States. What makes this republic really tick is Congress. Therefore we have to be very careful whom we send to Capital Hill. In the Senate and the House of Reps, that's where the people power is. A driver's license has to be renewed ever so often, may be a US History test should be required some years after High School. Checks and Balances is the framework of this republic. The ever-changing names in government are but incidental.

I don't know if eric field is young or old, naive or sophisiticated, but his comments make clear to me that he is not stupid. And he does not disrespectfully assail the opinions of other bloggers.

Mr. Morgan, what on earth is a "liberal fascist" and apparantly all wrapped in one with a Bolshewik??? Your comments tell me that you must have been cured of being young. I thought that being foolish was a personality trait not an addiction. Making me laugh is not making me cooler, but it makes me feel good.

Thanks, Isabel. I don't need a lecture from you. The question in the editorial was how do we think President Obama is doing. I merely replied to it.

Of course Congress creates the laws but he has the ultimate action of signing their bills into effect so he is an important cog in the wheel.

By the way, I received A's in all the many history courses I took throughout college.

It's ok Fran. She once expressed a delema between writing and tossing the VO. I'm guessing it isn't much of one today, maybe the ice ran out.

Eric Field, don't listen to TC. He says what he does is "called thinking; It’s called looking at both sides of the issues,.." then in the next breath he says, "I can tell you what Obama will say and do tonight without even hearing him (I see no reason to listen to him...)." As you can see TC hardly knows what he himself is saying, let alone being a good judge of people. Myself... I am closer to your opinion Eric. I don't like many things that are being said and done; however, it is too soon to judge the outcome. Our economy was a speeding locomotive of decline and you can't stop that in a moment. It will take time to stop the momentum and turn things around. New policies will take time to come up to speed before we will know the true impact of Obama's policies.

Young or old Eric, you seem to have an open mind and that is an asset.

I think Obama is doing a fine job. He was handed a country at war with 10 trillion dollars of debt. He is working on getting us out of that mess we made in Iraq. I love that we are concentrating on Afghanistan it is where we should have stayed in the first place. He is working on fixing a healthcare system that gives us very little return for the money we spend on it. By every measure this president is doing better than the last one, of course that is setting the bar very low.

Although in all honesty I think a better question would be what makes a good president?

I am sorry that I failed to come across with the clinical detachment I was addressing the issue. Even you and I are incidental to the greater issue of the nation's problems. As I've said, I am truly sorry!

I asked my American as apple pie , 58 year old daughter if she found my comments pertaining to Checks and Balances offensive?
I might, she said, if I am ill disposed toward you in the first place.

A college grad with consistent A [s] in history is, I am certain, familiar with the world renowned classic "Democracy in America" by Alexis de Tocqueville.

The least reproach offends...and the slightest sting of truth turns it fierce, and one must praise everything from the turn of a phrase to the most robust virtues. No writer, no matter how famous, can escape from this obligation to sprinkle incense over his fellow citizens. Hence the majority lives in a state of perpetual self-adoration; only strangers or experience may be able to bring certain truth to the Americans' attention.

I know darn well when I am baiting Mr. Morgan or Bart Turnipseed , and I expect stinging in response. But I did no such thing in my comments that responded to Fran B. I am hurt and I am disappointed. From now on , I shall stick to soliloquy, and leave dialogue to the other beehive bloggers. I see Eugenia and Mike D. are no longer in the comments column

I see that Eric Fields ideas are appreciated. And Kim Tanksley is right, the economy had to give because government did not ruin it. Wall Street was its destructive engine driving the price of a turnip to the price at the gas pumps. This kind of national debacle has a name....well I had better shut up. By the way; what is a VO tossing?

It may surprise you, Eric, but I agree with Kim, don’t listen to me! You owe it to yourself to search for "truth," to examine ALL sources (even those that are contrary to your own opinions). You and you alone will have to make a determination on what is true and what is not true. Cultivate intellectual honesty, the ability to examine all sides of an issue dispassionately. Don’t be afraid to look at all sides of an argument. Read all types of history of every viewpoint. You and I need a historical perspective and the only way we can get that is to read and study widely.

Study world religions, every one that you can; set them side by side, compare them, see which one(s) stands for the truth. Observe, discern, always bearing in mind that we humans are sinful being seeking our own selfish interests. One thing I’ve found helpful - looking for the agendas behind the words. Don’t take things at face-value. Many hide behind words. Many deeds do not match the words they so eloquently say.

I think the main reason, I made a choice, years ago, to reject both political and theological liberalism is - that in my opinion and study - I found them unwilling to listen or examine the "other side." (My former boss, used to say, "You can always tell a liberal, because you can’t tell them.”).

Read, read, read! Study, study, study! Examine, examine, examine! Discern, discern, discern! You will be OK. Just do what you know you need to do!

Isabel: I was thinking about your comments last night and how the president is merely one part of the equation. I agree with that. However, when he runs for president, he puts forth an agenda that he expects, and always gets, support from his party in the congress and senate. So I believe he has more power than merely a third in the checks and balances arena.

For instance, last night Obama blamed the Republicans for stalling the health care bill when it's the Blue Dog Democrats that are holding it up. He has to stay loyal to his party to keep his agenda moving forward.

Peace?

I don't feel he is doing a good joband even some from his own party are not supporting him. He is doing just what I expected bending over backwards to those in the Middle East and giving in to them. If all of those in Washington had to have the same healthcare and Social Security they would all get their heads out of their butt and fix things in a hurry including Obama. The national debt is rising still not going down as the wise one said he would do. He is no better than anyone before him. He is to busy traveling the world with his family to do his job.

Interesting posts.

However, as to the question of whether Obama's polls are dropping, the answer is simply "yes".

The reason is that the country elected a president that was eligible, but unqualified and is now realizing its mistake. His "press conference" pretty clearly illustrated how unqualified he is. Except for his last paragraph, TC called it pretty accurately.

In my opinion, the best service he can do for the country is to continue doing public press conferences, without a teleprompter, and invite Nancy Pelosi to participate in them with him.

Keep talking Barack, you're doing fine.

Most of you who are throwing mud at Obama are hypocrates. You've been lied too by the former President and still supported him.

The last election spoke for itself, more Americans are sick of the Republican Party.

And most of you would rather see 42 million people without healthcare? What is Christian about that?

Jackie has touched on something that I personally find very disturbing. At times in the past there has been a disconnect between government agencies on matters of foreign affairs. I don't think the world situation will tolerate such internecine nonsense any longer. More specifically is the relationship between Obama and Clinton, there is something going on there that needs to end soon before the world blows up. Whatever message it is that the nation wants out there in executing foreign policy should be fundamentally the same between the Oval Office and the Secretary of State. Recently concerning the situation developing in Honduras, it has not been...very scarey.

Isabell may be a little late this morning.

If that guy is going to use my name the least he could do is spell it the same way I do:)

Rich: Why are we including illegal aliens in this health plan?

Same old tired lib line: "...You've been lied to by the former President..." - it’s Bush’s fault. You do know, don’t you, that Bush is not president anymore? Maybe not!

"...you would rather see 42 million people without healthcare..." Don’t believe I’ve ever weighed in on those 42 million people (if it is that many).... BTW, even if you have no money you can not be refused medical care.

Been reading the transcripts of the news conference:

My take: A short synopsis on the Obama press conference: "To all Americans: 'Who's your daddy?'"

Rush Limbaugh may have said it best this morning: "The simplest way to explain all this is to remember, that it’s not about healthcare." It’s really about power & control.

"Beware of the man who speaks of sacrifice, for he speaks of slaves and masters. And he intends to be the master." -Ayn Rand

TC,
while you have the transcript out, exactly how many times did he say that he "inherited" some kind of disaster/impending catasrophe??? I couldn't keep up and lost track...

Isabell may be a little late this morning.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
And how do we connect my daily routine with President Obama's rise or fall? By the way, why should "that guy" spell your name like you spell it? Turnipseed, your spelling is not always like the dictionary spells it. That too is scary...and not scarey. And I am sure that the EU Council is going to file your comment about the intolerable internecine nonsense under T "Turnipseed Doctrine." What a belly laugh . Or should I clean it up to abdominal amusement?

"Beware of the man who speaks of sacrifice, for he speaks of slaves and masters. And he intends to be the master." -Ayn Rand

And here Mr. Morgan, "suscipiat Dominus sacrificium de manibus tuis" (may the Lord accept this sacrifice from your hands) From the Catholic mass. No slavery and only one "master" God. And Jesus of Nazareth was a sacrifice on the cross. No slaves no masters. When quoting to prove a point, make sure it can stand without being challenged so easily. This is not an indictment of the Russian Jewish woman writer, but a reminder to Mr. Morgan that Sophistry is not always the best course to take.

Perhaps in all his leisurely travels he could have spoken to some European countries that have Universal Health Care and see how they make it work so well. I know they have higher taxes but the get many benefits as well. Their kids go to college for free to. I am personally sick of all political parties.

It is good that we can agree that the president, within the framework of our government, is not a monolithic, separate power. Otherwise President Bush would have been responsible for Americans having taken to torturing prisoners; he would be to blame for the astronomical sums of taxpayer money being spent on the war in Iraq, with immense sums going to private contractors (like Halliburton and Bechtel as the widest known) who charged the US taxpayer for meals that were never served to our fighting soldiers et cetera et cetera. It would be President Bush who practically suspended habeas corpus, the corner stone of American justice. That would be quite a load to bear for the rest of his life. I still live in the naïve believe that Checks and Balances keeps the federal government from being taken over by despots. It is an ineradicable fact, that it took 8 years to raid the nation's wealth and to shift it from the once all-important middleclass to a Wall Street super-financial- class, attempting to control the fate of America's finances. Thousands lost their homes as it has been planned at the moment those borrowers signed the dotted line. The nation's resources were doled out in million dollar bonuses to those wheelers and dealers who devised the scheme of raiding America. It is unrealistic to expect any administration to reverse it in 6 months. President Eisenhower saw something else coming, and he warned us about the emerging power of the Military-Industrial Complex in his Farewell Address to the nation. And that concludes my soliloquy.......And at my age it does not really matter where we are heading. I am heading for my prepaid real estate on Villa Avenue in Clovis California. I just grin and bear it! Indeed! Peace it is!

Rich-

Lay off the Kool-aide.

Jim actually that's an unfounded racist statement.

The 42 million unfortuatly includes all, people of different races, ages, economic levels. It's not soley an illegal aliens (code word for Hispanics).

Thanks Isabell, the likes of Bart, Joe, TC believe we are drinking "Kool-aid" while they listen to an oxycotin drug addict every day.

You liberals are desperate to disengage the us from reality of the moment. The president you helped handicap into office is reportedly by his own words in trouble of losing momentum, and a critical cache of capital inside his own party. Yodel all you want I'm busy learning to be a tool most of the time. With a president like this one Mr. Feldon is correct, Obama is outdoing his biggest critics because he can't keep his own mouth shut. He is so obviously underqualified, you can see it in his face. With that garbage about the police acting stupidly, he will alienate every public servant who must routinely, thousands of times daily in this country, respond with executive responsibility.

Every generation has idioms peculiar to just them. I am at a distinct disadvantage by not understanding that "Cool Aid" thing which seems to come up repeatedly .... like some leitmotif. I am sorry!

You see this is what I mean about hypocrates.

What about your former President? I bet you still supported him all those years. Remember the former President with the worst approval rating in US history? Sure you do come on.

Is the former President an example of someone who is "qualified"?

http://www.hist.umn.edu/~ruggles/Approval.htm

Get over it.

And you do believe in the constitution right? He has a right to speak even if you don't agree.

He is not singling "every police officer" just the one he believes acted "stupidly" in this case.

Because most of the industrialized nations of Europe have re-discovered their social conscience, which America had as well. But Jackie Krage, it was superseded by the me! me! of the post World War II, ME ME generation; and it has come home to roost. The most prevalent TV commercials are about potions and devices for having better sex. So we could say that we are all screwed up. And the president does not have a thing to do with that.

Isabell-

When I use the term "Kool aide" drinker I am referring to the Jim Jones tragedy in Guyana several years ago. As you may recall, Jim Jones was a charismatic leader who convinced over a thousand followers (one of them a former employee of mine) to give their lives (and worldly possessions) to him. He established a cult that abused its members, insisted on a strict othodoxy, and prevented anyone from leaving the Guyana compound. When a US Congessman investigated this cult Jones had him killed. After killing the Congressman, Jones made everyone drink poisoned kool-aide. Most did voluntarily, others were forced to. Over 1,000 people died. I view it as an analogy to what the affect of liberalism and Obama's socialism is on American capitalism and individual freedom. When a liberal rejects any objective fact and resorts to name-calling (most do at some point) I begin to suspect they are beginning to "drink the Kool Aide", and try to warn them not to because I've seen where it leads.

Rich-

Are you misspelling "hypocrites" or "Hippocrates"?

Rich: There is nothing racist about that comment. It is a simple fact. Why are we providing health insurance for approximately 12,000,000 illegal aliens in this plan. They are not citizens and we cannot afford it. Your reaction is simply trying to confuse the issue because you do not have an answer. I never said they were all illegals.

Re; deragatory term "kool-aid","Jim Jones tragedy" to which JoeFeldon refers without dignity.

Jackie Speier (now a Congresswoman "D") was shot during a factfinding mission at the Jim Jones compound.

Need I remind Joe this guy was supposedly a Christian leader, not far from the rightwing wackos of today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Speier

He would not have said anything about the police officer had it noy been a black guy. The race card is always played by the blacks that don't obey the law. Its really quite simple if you are pulled over or approached by an officer you listen and obey not get mouthy, argue and resist the officer. This goes for all races. At the end of the day the officers just want to go home to their families too. I hate that my son and several friends might have to face a hostile person and may face injury or death. The media makes things worse because the first thing they do is ask the person do you think it would have been the same if it would have been a white man. I admit that blacks were treated unfairly many years ago but I was not alive then nor did any of my family ever own a slave so they just need to knock that chip off their shoulder already.

Jackie have you lived the life of a black person?
I wish it were that simple, to live the life without knowing (or wanting to know) the plight of people who are not white.

Rich-

There are a lot of people who claim to be Christians that aren't and a lot of liberals who assign the label "Christian" to people who aren't. Simply because a non-Christian claims to be a Christian or a liberal labels a whacko a Christian, does not make a person a Christian.

Also, what does Jackie Speier have to do with my explanation of the meaning of "Kool aide" drinker to Isabell? For the record, Leo Ryan was the congessman that was killed. I don't recall whether he was Republican, Democrat, or Christian as it was a terrible tragedy regardless of your lame attempts to turn everything into a political argument.

This may clear up a few questions if innocent people can be compelled to identify themselves to police in California. The underneath information is from the MSN search engine "bing"

When do I have to show ID? (1983), the Court struck down a California stop-and-identify law that required a suspect to provide “credible and reliable identification” upon request.

This is a tricky issue. As a general principle, citizens who are minding their own business are not obligated to "show their papers" to police. In fact, there is no law requiring citizens to carry identification of any kind.

Nonetheless, carrying an ID is generally required when you're driving a vehicle or a passenger on a commercial airline. From here, ID laws only get more complicated. As of 2008, 24 states had stop-and-identify laws. Regardless of your state's law, keep in mind that police can never compel you to identify yourself without reasonable suspicion to believe you're involved in criminal activity.

Remember, police need reasonable suspicion to detain you. One way to tell if they have reasonable suspicion is to determine if you're free to go. You could do this by saying "Excuse me officer. Are you detaining me, or am I free to go?" If the officer says you’re free to go, leave immediately and refrain from answering any additional questions.

5. Isn’t refusing to let the police search me an admission of guilt?

No. If a police officer asks your permission to search, you are under no obligation to consent. The main reason why officers ask is because they don’t have enough evidence to search without your consent. If you consent to a search request you give up one of the most important constitutional rights you have -- your Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

If I were asked if I lived the live of a black person, Rich, I have to say no. But where your question is lacking...a black person in the US.
There are millions of black persons all over the world. In most places they are just black persons, in contrast to white (caucasions) or yellow (asian) persons. And what about all those neo-beige persons? Most of them (today) are children and the US president hahaha! America! Get over it!

I have not lived the life of a black person as we have had this discussion before Rich but I have been looked at in a discriminatory light for being overweight and handicapped. People look at me when I park in a handicapped space giving me dirty looks when they have no idea the hell Ive been through. I just think they make life harder on themselves always being whoa is me. I know they have more opportunities for college if they chose that path than my daughter. It is not just for black but for hispanics, Indians and other nationalities that are entitled to full ride scholarships because of their nationality. That is wrong on so many levels but I'm not out beating up the college administrators because of it.I dont think the race card should ever be played no matter what as it causes racisal tensions more than anything. I don't think whites are superior as there are bad people in every race.

I actually went to school and have studied history and know that blacks were wronged on many levels and for that I am sorry but that was klong long ago and at some point people have to move on and get over it if we are to ever get past prejudices. I have never personally wronged or treated a black person bad and never would nor anyone from another race.

The day TC is "spot on" will be the day he drips ketchup on his shirt.

Rich, you are living "the life" of which you so awkwardly wrote of. Jump ship and stop backing a President who retracts his word so quickly that you are left alone in the dark to cover his tracks. It is a subtle slavery, party form but slavery none the less.

Leo Ryan, congressman California 11th congressional district, Democrat, was the only congressman ever killed in the line of duty. Posthumously, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. I believe 4 reporters were also killed at that airstrip in Guyana.

I too have the blue (permanent) parking placard for the disabled. I was fortunate. I never experienced discrimination because of it. People were actually always very helpful. And my American as apple pie daughter had a scholarship based on her scholastic record. But how did we get from Obama's popularity or the lack thereof, to handicapped parking and our daughter's scholarships?

It is refreshing to see and hear a President who admit a previous comment is not appropriate, unlike the arrogant decider (Bush).

I don't expect you to commend him either way for what he said before or after his "stupid" remark.

He still has a right to make comments. This is still America.

You may be educated on history but that does not put you in the life experiences of black people.

You also stated "I am sorry but that was long long ago and at some point people have to move on and get over it if we are to ever get past prejudices."

Actually it was not long ago and our society does need to overcome prejudices but not with your type of attitude toward the issue.

You have no clue, nor do I expect you too.

Joe,

If you don't know your history on grade school "kool-aide" comments do your homework then come back here.

You stated;

"Also, what does Jackie Speier have to do with my explanation of the meaning of "Kool aide" drinker to Isabell? For the record, Leo Ryan was the congessman that was killed. I don't recall whether he was Republican, Democrat, or Christian as it was a terrible tragedy regardless of your lame attempts to turn everything into a political argument."

-Leo Ryan was a Democrat
-Jackie Speier was a Congressional Staffer and was shot at the time Congressman Ryan was killed.
Speier is now a Congressman.

Your the one who referred to this tragedy with the "kool-aid" comment. And you don't even know the history behind it?? Your calling me lame?

Most all of our discussions here are political, deal with it.

I even offered you a link to educate yourself. Judging from you last post you didn't, this is also lame.

Rich, getting ahead of yourself again, we're talking San Francisco but unless you are breaking news (as opposed to the usual...) I don't think Speier is a man, yet. Hope this helps dial in with the small knobs. That whole Jones thing is an indicator of how low folks let their guard down for charismatic, high caliber leadership.

Bart I meant Congresswoaman. I already said She was in a previous comment, it's a typo, fact check my previous comment (July 24, 2009 6:48 PM comment).

Congresswoman Speier does represent San Francisco area, your off as usual. She was a Staffer durring that time and represented the same area.

"I don't think Speier is a man, yet." I am tripping over Bart Turnipseed's not being a man "yet." And coupling it with his remark "....we're talking San Francisco..." Weell...deny it as much as you want, but that is to be filed under homophobia. Indeed Jackie Speier is fm, and quite an indomitable lady she appears to be. Her career seems to be in the wake of dead California legislators. I still advocate my rule of thumb....those women who are qualified to be lawmakers, shun it like the plague, and those who clamor for it should be shunned like the plague. Prejudicial ??? Certainly! But it's my thumb; my rule!

Rich-

Wow, you appear to be losing it. What does your 11:41 PM have to do with my explanation of "Kool aide" drinkers? That's right- nothing.

Go change your diaper and get a new Binky.

We humans are basically driven by solipsistic reaction to the world, to the people around us. So Jackie Krage cannot "put herself in the life experience of black people." Nor can I. And why should we?

It is far more essential that we all aspire to the human; citizens; denizens; neighbors etc. etc. life experience. The race card has changed spots considerably. It is less about skin color these days than it is about scapegoating on economic basis. The rich blacks are no more willing to share with the economically disadvantaged blacks, than the rich white, or rich polka dotted extraterrestrials are willing to share with me the squeaky white Euro.

"We are...rich blacks [vs] economically disadvantaged blacks"...Isabell Lawson = John Kerry in a muumuu googling at the speed of light.

Go away for a week and you would never know...Bart...thanks for the chuckles by skewering the verbal masturbators with their own inaneness.Rich...there is only one "Christian Leader" and that would be Christ himself.Isabell...good to know you're still topside.

If stupidity were painful, Bart Turnipseed would be hurting a lot. He is not even clever about twisting words in people's mouths. Just shooting off his mouth in, more often than not, weird pros. He really thinks people are interested in his neurotic obsession to discredit commentaries. When I have a lively disagreement with another blogger's opinion, he swoops in like a carrion eating vulture; only to have to let go because intelligent debaters , invariably, wind up at peace with each other on the common ground of mutual respect. That man must have a roster with posts that he thinks useful to disparage with at some later, usually, totally unrelated context. He does it over and over again. How sad! Perhaps I am "under calibrating" this kind of emotional condition.

As you cycle in and out of victimhood...that was pretty slick how you insinuated that Jackie would interfere in your white Euro lifestyle. Your entry on the police response topic: "Jackie Krage, If you sic a cop on me in my own house, minding my own business, that does not mean that I should give up my 4th Amendment rights by any means."
I doubt if Jackie would call the police because you locked yourself out in your muumuu. I'm sure she is aware of your vast capacity to undermine the professional intention of a self initiated citizen assist by police at the drop of a hat.
Something tells me they do also.

Brian Murray; I know that you know better. So why keep your pros at the lowest denominator of crude. And I told you twice already, I shall die when God want's me to depart. Not sooner not later. And I am comfortable with that.

Welcome back Brian, hope your experiences elsewhere were memorable.

Joe, your obviously are loosing track of the threads and responses. I was responding to Bart's thread. So in fact, you lost it.

Get with the program, bad enough you we have to spoon feed you facts on your derogatory terms like a two year old.

An apology to Jackie Krage. If, however, inadvertently I " insinuated" that you interfered with my "white Euro lifestyle????" I am truly sorry. I give up on dealing with those out of context , weird concoctions Turnipseed comes up with. I am not a psychiatrist. Like your hubby, I am a druggist. And it is miles too hot to "cycle in and out victimhood". hahaha!

Once Brian Murray expressed that though my prose was elegant it was bullshit just the same. I am borrowing that phrase to apply it to Turnipseed, but sans elegant. The thread is on its way to the big file in cyberspace. There is not much we can do here about president Obama's popularity or lack thereof. Brian Murray, did you take the cruise on the "Love Boat?"

Rich-

You missed it again. I was responding to your July 25, 11:41 PM response to me.

BTW, you never did clarify whether you were misspelling "hypocrites" or "Hippocrates". Which is it?

After your diaper and Binky break, you should probably take a nap too.

Good night.

Joe your a tip for the day. Research before mouthing off derogatory comments such as "kool-aid" drinkers.

Maybe then you can graduate to spelling police.

CNN is reporting a new poll taken in the United Kingdom indicating a decline in public support for the military operations in Afganistan. If true, I believe this lack of support can be largely attributed to the diplomatic gaffs toward that ally in recent months by the "messiah" CCN helped to create. Returning the bust of Winston Churchill loaned for display in the Whitehouse during the Bush administration to symbolize Britains undaunting support in the War on Terror after 9/11 is one good example. When the new administration took over, the bust was sent packing rather unceremoniously as part of the house cleaning. What greater signal could Obama send that he is no longer interested in the arrangements of the past when nations supported each other in blood? Reap what you sow "Harvard man." Should they make good on any promise to leave that theatre, our own airmen, marines, sailors and soldiers will be paying the price for your blunder.

Bart,

After all these years you still got it wrong. Ever consider the former President misdirected his 9/11 effort toward the wrong Country? The terrorists were not from Iraq. Further more many of the Countries were pulling out of Iraq long before Obama took office.

Rich-

You do realize that you are quite mad don't you?

Re: Waning support in the United Kingdom for the war in Afghanistan. It is not the US presiden's diplomacy style that is turning the Euros off. EU support is going to wane more yet, because Europeans are not going to allow their respective governments to send their kids to die in Afghanistan, while the wealthy US government can afford buying mercenary armies in places like Columbia, and deploy them to Afghanistan.

Thanks for the authoritative lesson, by the way do you mean Presiden Obama?

Good points Isabell.

Dragging a thread out of archives to play spelling police; that's Turnipseed. Turnipseed the classic case of malapropism [using words in appropriately.] Turnipseed the reformer of English grammar; Turnipseed who makes no less typos than any of us. Thanks for providing today's chuckle. "Laugh! Laugh! Laugh! the whole day through, and half the summer night..."

Now that the fascinating subject of malapropism has finally been broached, I'm left (again) to wonder: How did I get inside of an appropriately to use words anyway?
