Can I still get the job if I'm in jail?

Job counselors may have to add a new segment to their employment coaching. It seems some job applicants don't understand that when they're standing in line waiting for an interview it's not a good idea to get in a fight with other applicants. And it's really not a good idea to keep fighting to the point that cops arrest you.

But that's what happened on Monday at the WinCo food store in Southeast Fresno. There were 400 people waiting in the job line just before noon as the Fresno temperature was rising. A verbal altercation began among a handful of applicants, according to police. Then it got physical. Here's the full story from The Bee.

It took 12 officers to break up the dispute and seven people ended up getting arrested. They did not get the jobs. On the other hand, they get a free night's lodging courtesy of Fresno County taxpayers.

Waiting in the 100+ heat was part of the weeding out process.

At least the the arrested people enjoyed the air-conditioned jail.

You won't be able to do that soon. Sheriff Mims as of Tuesday announced she is going to lay-off 35 correctional officers. Which means inmates just like the one that murdered the Kerman couple are going to be on the streets. Why is no one focusing on the horrible job Mims is doing protecting us!!! Do yourself a favor lock your doors and buy a gun.

Mike,

The County Board of Supervisors are to blame, they cut funding. The Supervisors would normally rant about somthing like this, but they aren't because they helped cause the problem.

I can only remind the voting citizenry(again) that, all too frequently, those women who are well qualified to hold elective office, want no part of it. And some of those women who do run and get elected; WE should want no part of. I am a woman, and I know us very very well.

My knee jerk reaction is their actions are indicative of why they are unemployed in the first place.

The sensitive side of me thinks what a sad state of affairs it is that so many people are looking for work but happy to see they keep trying even under harsh conditions. Given the conditions WinCo could have taken mercy on the people in the sun and shut things down until they could arrange a more suitable location for the interviews or taken names and made appointments.

In think Mimms has been doing a great job especially considering what budgets she has had to work with since she started. I don't think we can blame her for the lay-offs of correctional officers. Lay-offs have always been the last resort with her.

Isabell why are you bringing gender into this issue?

And I think that Sheriff Mims did not do a great job. Is Tanksley "think" of greater authenticity than Lawson "think" and all those who are greatly disappointed due to the woman's imperious and highhanded way of running her office.

And only a man can ask the naive question, why bring gender into this issue. Mim's psyche is the issue. And I shall not debate the issue any further.

I didn't think this was a debate.

More power to women in office. Gender is a non-issue for me.

Oh! I too, most definitely, believe in WOMEN power in politics. THOSE WOMEN WHO ARE PART OF THE SOLUTION, AND NOT THE PROBLEM. And everyone is free to think about Sheriff Mims what they wish to think. And that includes me. The reason I begged off on any further discussion is based on the patently ugly exchange Rich vs JoeFeldon. By the way, I was nursed on politics by a woman prominent in politics. But Mother (an acclaimed beauty at odds with her own blue-blooded father who thought that a gentle woman had no business being in politics) was part of the solution to build a democratic republic from the remains of a once vast empire, after WW II.

So Sorry....its World War I! That's what you get hitting the keys too hard....double.

sHE IS DOING THE BEST SHE CAN WITH THE RESOURCES THAT ARE GIVEN TO HER. SHE HAS TO HAVE A WAY TO PAY THEM. I DON'T WANT THE CRIMINALS OUT ON THE STREET EITHER SO I GUESS THEY JUST HAVE TO SHOOT THEM INSTEAD OF ARRESTING THEM.

To clear things up a bit. With me, it's not the use of the restricted resources that is the major problem. With me...the problem is her attitude. Being in public service means eating humble pie once in a while, especially when being in the wrong. But her reactions, so far, where always in the opposite. But as I have pointed out earlier, each citizen is free to his/her own opinion. I want things my own way in my own house...but that is where the accent is..my own house.

No one booked on a murder charge is going to be released from jail...and jus_ because Palin will be seeking office does no_ mean i_ is _ime _o decide _ha_ poli_ics is no_ _he preferred profession of women.

I was just going to say that Bart. Murderers and hard criminals won't be the few released. It will be the non-violent drug possessions and the like. I'm sure they'll be quite picky.

California has some of the toughest crime laws in the country which is why we also have an incredibly high prison and corrections expense.

And before anyone starts trying to say I want to let them all go, nothing can be further from the truth. Senseless violence, gangs, shootings, etc. is a real sticking point with me. Most of them I don't think should live to see next week. That'll save us some money. And not locking up the guy who was caught smoking one, or the first timer who was in possession of a small amount of an illegal substance would save us a bunch of money too.
