Arambula is toying with leaving the Democratic Party

Assemblyman Juan Arambula, D-Fresno, is so frustrated with legislative politics that he'll probably become an independent before his third and final term ends at the close of 2010. He's already told Assembly Speaker Karen Bass of that likelihood.

I examine Arambula's political career in today's column. Click here to read my take on Arambula and Democratic politics. The problem for Arambula is that there's no room for political moderates in the Demo Party in California -- at least the Demo Party that's running the state Legislature.

I believe especially in front of the camera, some members of both parties are trying hard to appear to be grappling with the more serious philosophy of politics. I think that it is an interesting exercise for the voter who tries this, I have twice changed parties in the franchised portion of my life. For politicians though, it should be watched more closely. The primary goal of a politician will always be to get re-elected, "toying" in this respect is a often unmentioned universal sport.

From the taxpayers perspective, what is happening I fear, is similar to the poor guy who was scuba diving in the pacific ocean off the coast of California. A wildfire, circumstances remote from his immediate experience, set into motion events that ultimately caused him to be dumped, with the water in which he was suspended, in the air over the fire from a helicopter. Folks should be careful about the continuity of the goals they have and the group with which they are immediately affiliated. Nothing is what it appears to be in this state, now more than ever.

Great allegory, Bart! I think u hit the nail on the head as far as how many of us feel.

Its always good to see people leave the republican or democratic party. Both of these parties have failed to honor the philosophical idea in which our country was founded. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Hopefully the assemblyman chooses a party that reflects this idea.
