Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has gotten out of Dodge (well, Sacramento), as California voters are preparing to send him and the Legislature a big message by rejecting today's budget package in the special election. If somehow the polls are wrong, and the budget package passes, he'll be back."
But you can bet the governor doesn't want to be at his election-night party. Now that's going to be depressing place.
Schwarzenegger is scheduled to be in Washington, D.C., with President Barack Obama as he announces new automobile emissions rules patterned after California's rules. How perfect.
A Schwarzenegger spokesman said the governor voted by mail Monday just in time to head off for the White House ceremony.
Even if the ballot measures pass today, California would still have a $15.4 billion deficit. If the key propositions fail, the deficit will be $21.3 billion, according to lawmakers. But that's poltiician math. The deficit is likely much higher than the legislators are admitting to.
I am pretty sure he is in Washington for a job interview.
He wants to stay in the thick of things, but he is done in CA. It would work well with Obama. If these propositions fail and or fail badly, Arnie is done. To stay on would be worse then lame duck status. I think he is out of here before the end of his term. You know, "when the President calls" type of thing. Can't wait to here the speech.
Who cares? The results will not change whether he is here or not. I'm glad he is in Washington D.C. keeping us in their minds. He's doing his job. Why the fuss?
