Blog with us on today's special election

We'll be bringing you the results of today's special election, and offering our take on what the voters were telling politicians with their votes. We hope you stay with us throughout the day and into the evening as the vote count is being completed by elections officials.

We expect the "Comments" portion of the Opinion Talk blog to be full of passionate opinions on the election. Our loyal bloggers cut across the poltiical spectrum and this election will be interpreted in many ways by Opinion Talk participants.

Get the discussion going by telling us what you think about the election and what should be the next step for the governor and the Legislature. This is what I said about the election in my Sunday column.

Doesn't matter if all these propositions pass anyway - Our legislature would find some other way to screw things up, increase the deficit and still have no clue as to what to do - this election was an exercise in futility. Had this happened in a major corporation, all our talking heads in Sacramento would have been fired years ago.

By voting these propositions down, perhaps the State can get a grip towards the unions of the Public Safety - Corrections, Police and Fire Safety. There remains far too much high-priced "management" in these 3 areas, at the expense of the ones who actually have to deal with prisoner, combat crime and fire. Slash 20% from these budgets and see how innovative they can become. Federal and State grants can add up to 20% of thier yearly budget, but we never hear about these when they approach the powers to be and ask for the next year's money. The public needs to be made aware of how much money gets spent every year on frivolous requests, and the total cost to the taxpayers of issuing these managemnt personnel a state vehicle for commuting purposes. If these agencies had been run like a business, there would be no one left standing from their gross mismanagement of taxpayer's funds.

I just want to say I voted NO on all 6. I am very upset on how fast this state is falling in the whole. People are losing there jobs and struggling to make it from day to day and yet our unions and elected officals feel they are exept from this. I don't understand how we ended up with such a crocked state. I feel I need to voice my opion and vote , but at the same times I really wounder what's the point. Regardless what these elected officals tell us, you can never believe its true. Look how many signed promising they wouldn't raise taxes and yet we have. I really hope our governor gets recalled. The whole reason he was voted in was to save us from the tax hell our state was going in and all he did was drag us in deeper. He doesn't even have enough respect to be here during this election, but yet he expects us to care what he has to say. If there is a recall out there I will be more than happy to sign it. Thank you for letting me speak my mind.
