My daughter and her cousin went to the New Kids on the Block concert at the Save Mart Center last night. I was surprised to learn that the New Kids -- can they really be "new kids" -- are back on tour. Shouldn't they be retired by now?
I remember when the NKOTB first came to Fresno and played the Wilson Theater in downtown Fresno. That was 1989, and my daughter was 11. The next time we saw the New Kids we had to drive to Sacramento to see them at the Arco Arena because they no longer played small venues such as the Wilson Theater (which is now a church).
Picture 17,000 fans at the Arco Arena, mostly 11- and 12-year-old girls, screaming for two hours at such a high pitch that my ears were still ringing days after the concert. It was a family affair with all the cousins there and their parents chaperoning. That family memory will always be with me so I have a connection with the NKOTB that won't be broken.
So what is a New Kids concert like today? Do they still sing "Hangin' Tough." and "The Right Stuff."? I didn't go to last night's concert, and I didn't get a report this morning because my daughter, who was visiting from San Diego, came in after I went to bed.
I'm betting not many of our bloggers on Opinion Talk went to the concert. But surprise me. If you have a review of the New Kids concert, post it here.
Over on the Beehive, Mike Oz asked for New Kids reviews and he already has four comments. Click here for those reviews.
I am 30 yrs old and also attended a New Kids concert in 1989 at the age of 10. But, still at 30 I am a HUGE fan. I attended last nights concert and was as blown away by it as I was 20 yrs ago. They still "hang tough" and got the "right stuff"!
I thought NKOTB was the acronym for New King Obama Taxes Billions. Shows you how old I am.
