My column this week discusses how out of touch California lawmakers are with their constituents who pay the bills. My chief example is Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, but the other 119 legislators aren't much better. That's one of the reasons I've called for abolishing the California Legislature and reconstituting it under a unicameral and non-partisan model.

In response to Jim Boren, your assumption is fallacious that dismantling a good form of government shall produce honest lawmakers in a different form of government. By rule of thumb; a politician is a politician by any other name. Their race for self-serving interests must be harnessed. What we need is for Californians to get involved with their government. The concept We the People carries grave responsibility for each citizen. Freedom is not self-generated. It's powers come from the ballot box; the power to recall or impeach and other controls and safeguards laid down in the constitution[s]. Presently we should throw out the babies but not the bathwater. And that concludes my assumptions.
