Now everyone wants a Portuguese water dog

first dog.JPGThe First Family has chosen its White House pup -- a Portuguese water dog named Bo. The story was broken by the celebrity Web site TMZ. Click here for TMZ's take on the Obamas' new dog.

This is from the AP's report on the unveiling of the First Pooch:

The nation got its long-awaited first look at Bo in action as the Obamas showed off the family's new dog on the South Lawn. First lady Michelle Obama did most of the walking while the 6-month-old Portuguese water dog scampered about. Then daughter Malia took a turn, and Bo took off running.

Despite the name of the dog's breed, daughter Sasha pointed out to reporters, "He doesn't know how to swim."

"Yeah, apparently they have to be taught how to swim," President Obama added.

The girls grinned as they played with Bo. The wet lawn, chilly air and gray sky didn't put a damper on Bo's debut.

Sasha clapped her hands at one point, calling for the dog's attention. Bo wagged his tail as each of the Obamas bent down to pet him.

Isn't that appropriate. A "waterdog" that doesn't know how to swim...owned by a President who has no clue on how to lead. SOLID!!!

Bill I think you have a partisan party to attend today.

I have no huge desire to get one just because the Obamas have one. It is a cute dog but I have no desire to be like them. I am happy for the girls cause a dog makes happier children. Now Obama can really step in it.

Cool dog. Kind of a cross between a poodle and a flat coat retriever. I like them when the are allowed to let their hair grow; kinda like a poodle with dreds. If the Obama's give their dog one of those awful fifi poodle haircuts then I shall really begin to worry for our country. That would be inexcusable.
