San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who is running for the Democratic nomination for governor next year, is scheduled to hold a town hall meeting from 6-8 p.m. today at the Wawona Middle School gymnasium. Click here for details of the event. The school is at 4524 North Thorne Ave.
Newsom's main competition for the Democratic nomination is Attorney General Jerry Brown, who has much higher name identification because of his longtime connection to California politics. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also is considering running for governor. Newsom is the only Democratic candidate who has formally anounced his intention to run for governor.

Why are we letting this admitted adulterer and sleazeball anywhere near a school, even if it is after hours? Speaks well for the school district doesn’t it?
The answer,because we have no control over where the Mayor of San Francisco wants to go. But I wished that there would be less name-calling ranging from the déclassé to the vulgar.
He makes me sick to my stomach. I would take Jerry over him anytime. Newsome is to arrogant and thinks hes Gods gift to the world. I don't think he would take our state in the right direction.
He may be all that, but Fresno still would have no right to curtail his movements. I don't admire Newsome, but I would not dream of attempting to tell him where to go in Fresno and where not. Pulling up the drawbridge is Dark Ages stuff.
I think there are a lot of us Isabel that would love to tell him where to go. LOL
I'm not a big fan of Newsom, but where is all this animosity coming from? He hasn't done anything to us. Is he just the recipient of some of the hatred some people around here have for gay people?
Am I confused or what. Is Mr. Newsome gay? (Not that I would give a damn) but T.C. Morgan called him an adulterer.
Mike: For me he cheated on his wife with his best friends wife. That to me shows litte regards for others. Also having seen him speak briefly a few times, he comes off as cocky, arrogant, pompous and basically a jerk. He is entitled to his opinion on gays, as we all are. I just feel his moral character and ethics are very questionable.
Jim, I can understand not liking him because of that. I'm not too fond of him myself, largely for those reasons. But that doesn't explain the level of vitriol I see in here. There are lots of adulterous and egotistical politicians, after all, on both sides of the political spectrum. That's why I suspect it's his support for gay marriage that's bringing out the visceral hatred among some people.
OK I am no longer confused. Do I feel the better and the wiser for knowing the sordid tale? Certainly not. And I remember the dirty stuff that was hinted about Governor Jerry Brown because he did not tomcat about. Perhaps it would be a better world spitting watermelon seeds instead of all that voyeurism.
I don't like everything about him either...both sides are guilty of that...you are disproportionately critical...it must be hate. Such a limited playbook.
