Time to leave the GOP behind

President Obama is getting a lot of gas from bloggers on the left for trying to get Republicans to support his stimulus plans, only to see them walk away from the table after many concessions.

Here's one. And another. And another.

On the right, the bloggers are urging GOP members of Congress not to go along with the plans, here, and here and here.

Well, that refreshing sense of bipartisanship was nice while it lasted, which was, what, about a week?

Looks like the GOP slogan has morphed into "Party First."

It's "Principles First."

Is that really so hard for some to comprehend?

Albeit wrong I believe the Rep are just giving the Dems a case of their own medicine as it has been for the last 8 yrs when they wouldn't help Bush do anything. It takes all of them to get things accomplished and they know it.

Tony, what principles would those be?

Jackie, what exactly did Bush want that he didn't get? He got his tax cuts, his wars, his domestic spying agenda, his Supreme Court picks. Is there anything the Democrats didn't give him?

The principle of not spending money you don't have.

The principle of not taking money you did not earn.

The principle of rewarding risk, initiative & hard work rather than penalizing them.

The principle of avoiding moral hazard, not rewarding companies and people for bad decisions freely made.

And how about the principle of intellectual honesty? This so-called 'stimulus' is a load of pork excrement, in every sense. Mike D. and the Bee also supported the oh-so-urgent Bailout too, didn't you? Talk about a crock.

Surely you jest, Tony. The "principle of not spending money you don't have"? When did Republicans suddenly discover that one?

As for the stimulus, I'm well aware that you prefer a more Hooverian approach to the economic situation. Thankfully, yours is the minority opinion.

Sound budgeting is not a partisan principle, Mike D. Like I said, "Principles First." You are the one who said "Party First."

P.S. See what I mean about contradicting your own posts and lacking any self-awareness? You do this on every thread.

Why does there have to be bipartisanship on everything?? Since the Democrats "won" the election, why don't they just impose their agenda however they see fit?? Could it be that they want to cover their butts so that in 4 years after all the promises of "Hope and Change" have failed miserably, they can point fingers towards the Republicans in an attempt to share the blame? Come on Libs...get a back-bone! If your ideas are so brilliant and bound to succeed, stand-by them, put them in motion, and you won't need the Republicans as scapegoats...right???

Actually, no, Tony, I don't see what you mean. "Principles First" and "not spending money you don't have" were your assertions, not mine. My sarcastic expression of disbelief in no way contradicts my snarky "Party First" characterization.

The Republicans are not going to take too much time from their 4 YEAR PLAN to get the White House back in 2012. But it could be like the well laid plans of mice and man. During that period congressional seats are up for grabs twice. It is up to We the People. And shall we reap what we sow for thus is the nature of democratical system.

All you "Obama Worshippers" please stop the Bi-Partisan charade. We all know that "Lord Obama the Merciful" does not need any Republicans to pass this joke. He's just looking for political cover for his party WHEN this doesn't pan out."The Messiah" and his Democratic disciples are total frauds so PLEASE leave the GOP behind on this...if I want pork products I'll look to the local butcher for advice and direction...not the Dems.

Brian face it your too much of a partisan to consider bi-partisanship.

Your sadly mistaken if you believe the GOP is not above pork spending, sadly mistaken.

Why dont we just look to our great state to see how our country will look under total democratic rule. How is the financial state of our state? How is our unemployment, government reliance and business friendly enviorment? Are more businesses entering the state or leaving? Are we sending most of our business to China or keeping it here?
I know Bush was a total disaster but he also did not follow consertive values. Until we start as a country forcing our politicians to use common sense and true fiscal values we are in for far more of what we are experiencing now

"Just Rich"...if it's going to be so great and "The Messiah" doesn't need any GOP votes why would he and his party want any GOP member to get any credit for it but this is definitely a "Bi-partisan Bill" though because it is going to screw everyone. Is your self-loathing that intense that your willing to swallow this crap for your party? Good Grief!

"Badge of Honor Brian" It will take some time for you to realize that this is not Bush politics. Obama is sincerly reaching out and listening to what everyone has to say. It is a politics of understanding and reaching out, not wrong headed stubbornness.

They may not agree on everything but the willingness to compromise is something we need in politics. People can compromise on issues without compromising core beliefs. This is something foriegn to you maybe someday you will understand how things work in the real world.

"Just Rich" aka."The Cockroach Advocate"...Thanks for confirming my suspicions that you'll buy whatever "El Uno" is selling to his slobbering followers. If your name is really Richard then I think "Dick" will be appropriate from now on.Are you OK with that..."Dick".

This time a tax cheat has withdrawn her name for consideration... so just how many tax cheats does it take to fill up "The Do as I Say not as I Do" Administration of "Lord Obama the Merciful".I guess Democrats just can't help themselves but then again you don't have to be ethical in a party where ethics do not exist...just say you're "Sorry" and the slobbering worshippers will forgive you and just what did Bill Richardson do that was so bad to get the boot? Maybe "The Messiah" just doesn't like Hispanics.
