Parra seems surprised that she's being asked what her new state duties are

I dunno. . . You'd think that when the governor gives you a cushy new job that pays $128,000 a year, you'd have a good answer to reporters' questions about what you'll be doing for all that taxpayer money. Not so for former Assembly Member Nicole Parra. Two days after her appointment was announced, the Democrat was still referring questions about the job to the governor's press office.

"I'm just honored to be able to work the next two years for the governor in the Central Valley in economic development and whatever else he would like me to do," Parra said in this story in The Bee.

"Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Rachel Cameron said Parra would have responsibility over the entire state -- not just the Valley. One of her chief duties will be to increase the number of public-private partnerships in poor regions," according to the story.

Parra's appointment was criticized by several politicians, including Republican Sen. Jeff Denham of Atwater. The post for Parra was created at a time when there's a huge state budget deficit. It "sends the wrong message to the rest of the state," Denham said of creating the job.

Sounds like a nice sinecure to me.

She was obviously picked because of her passion for, well, whatever it is that she will be doing (if she ever gets around to finding out what that is).

"Parra seems surprised that she's being asked what her new state duties are"

I am surprised that she has been asked to perform new state duties at the tax payers' cost of $128.000 a year...and probably plus and plus and plus?

Is Super-Arnold still (allegedly) pinching the southend appendage to pretty FM faces?

I love that part of the quote,
"...and whatever else he would like me to do."

$128k is more than assembly member pay of $116k.

Mike(D)..."How can I be da Man when you da Man".Way to go bro!

She just has a job and is happy with that and the salary even though she doesn't know what that job entails. Arnold has also appointed a new superior court judge in Merced at a salary of $178,000 a year. Granted I am sure we need more judges he is appointing these high salary jobs and laying off state employees. If they don't get a budget they will probably give IOUs to the seniors on Social Security and then how are they supposed to live. I guess he wants to end with a bang be it negative or not.
