Add environmental and conservation groups to the list of casualties in the ongoing state budget mess. The freeze on state bond funds has stopped several thousand projects, from land purchases to trail construction.
Some nonprofit groups -- especially the ones that started projects with expectations of being paid back by the state -- are starting to lay off employees and even shut their doors.
Schools, universities, clinics, hospitals, road projects, park maintenance, taxpayers expecting refunds -- the list of Sacramento's victims just keeps growing. Where will it end?
"Where will it end?" When we say NO MORE! Read the Declaratiuon of Independence (the role of government) and we shall konow. George ain't gonna do it.

Comprehensive list of environmental projects frozen due to budget stalemate. Quite a list, with many local projects
Where / when will it end? I would love to be optimistic. But I cannot!
"Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms (of government) those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny." Jefferson
"He who owns the gold makes the rules"
It is our benevolent representatives loyal
to their duties as lobbyists to corporate power
who cut first any services or projects that
serve the public. The priorities of those who
determine where our tax dollars go is deplorable.
The elite class in this state refuse to have
their taxes raised and this has contributed
to our huge deficit. Big off shore oil companies
do not pay their fair share into the tax base.
Why don't they put a cap on our congressional
representatives perks or lower their wages to cut back
on expenses? We also have plenty of tax dollars for the building of prisons don't we. We the
people must demand of our governor and those
making decisions for us to look at the wasteful
way they are spending our tax dollars and cut
funging where it is needed the most. Cutting
valuable environmental projects and groups that
serve the publics needs is not sound fiscal
responsibililty!
So what. It is time to stand up and fight, and go back to conservative principles. Quit this liberal game of tax ,tax, tax; for what ? Taxation does not help. Cutting budgets and cutting taxes works every time it is tried..
Cutting budgets and cutting taxes works every time it is tried..
Works for who? Not for our schools, hospitals, the poor and elderly, or the disabled. Not to mention our crumbling infrastructure. We've been starving the public sector far too long now.
Mike(D)...Where did all the money go that has not been going to the public sector?
It's been going a lot of places, Brian. Some of it probably got invested in mortgage-backed securities on Wall Street. A lot of good that did, right? Tony G. did a good job recently of pointing out that the state government is only a small part of the California economy. So increasing it's size a few percentage points won't make a dent in our overall economy. You make it sound like it's one or the other -either the public sector thrives or the private sector does. In reality, both need each other.
And what about my point, Brian? What happens to disabled kids whose services are going to be cut? (Which is pretty much a certainty at this point.) Do their needs matter at all to you?
"Our schools, hospitals, the poor and elderly...", "disabled kids"... I love how the libs never-ending list of heart-tugging "victims" continues to grow everytime they try to justify not cutting taxes or raising them.
Mike D.,
You forgot to add puppies and kittens to your list as well...
Sorry, Bill, that's reality. One of the first cuts on both parties' lists is to regional center programs for developmentally disabled children. Maybe your heart is too stony to care about them, but some people still do.
Mike(D)...First of all define services, then define cut and show me the history of spending on these services for maybe 5 years. Then I would like to analyze the results. Then I could give a non-emotional answer.I found your last statement offensive that you would insinuate I do not care about the needs of others but then you really know very little about me, so...no offense taken.
I didn't know you went by the name "Bill," Brian. Instead of me doing your homework for you, why don't you visit the local regional center yourself (It's located on Marty), and talk to some of the staff and parents there, and meet some of the kids they work with? If you have a better idea of how to help them, I'm all ears.
"I found your last statement offensive that you would insinuate I do not care about the needs of others but then you really know very little about me,..."
Wrong! We know a lot about you. But unlike you, we are not cruel enough to publish the profile.
The dominoes are falling on every city in the state. Now we are to cut all kinds of programs and services. If they stop all the benefits to the illegals we would save millions. If we cut the PD you can bet the criminals will be out in force. A review of the section 8 receipiants as many are over the income level for qualifying but they know its not being followed up on just like the welfare dept. They cut the cal works program which is supposed to help people get a job and off welfare.
Mike(D)...you bring it up and then try to deflect the responsibility for your vacuous, emotinal statements.I do not have the time to research your supposed interest. Are you working, volunteering or have a child there or are you just using them to launch an attack against me.If so, it shows your shallowness.Dizzy...Go ahead you windbag, publish the profile...or whatever you think I am.I'm the trapeze artist in this circus taking the risks while...you're just the clown in the little car who's so ridiculous I just have to laugh.
Pursuant to Heather Mc Lane's post, written in self-deprecating humor (which is the funniest kind) blogger Brian Murray referred to her as a lush and thoughtless State employee. He never calls blogger Mike D. names, outright, but no love is being lost there. I am a windbag and a clown in a funny little car (and other choice names expressed in street language.) Kim Tanksley who works for the State (according to Murray) has sold her vote for security and he (Murray) working in the private sector has no time to read her 10 minute posts.
Just eight random samples of Murray's posting chronology.

No wonder Mr. Murray has no time to read. Being disagreeable, ranging from mean to vulgar including the risqué seems to be a fulltime job. And I shall part with my newfound (British) salutation: 'bugger off." Murray!
P.S. Question: The participating beehivers, reading the posts, would they judge Isabell Lawson to be a clown, or would they
judge that Mr. Murray presents himself as a mean and vulgar person?
