This article on CNNPolitics.com says that more than 300,000 people -- roughly equivalent to the entire population of Iceland -- have expressed interest in positions in the Obama administration.
"The bad news for Obama hopefuls is that there are fewer than 8,000 presidentially appointed jobs for the 300,000 (and growing) applicants."
I find it amazing that people who have been in their profession for 10 or 20 years are suddenly wanting to work in this administration. Even high ranking people. And that's 300,000 and counting, they're still taking resumés. It's temporary work too, 4 or maybe 8 years and that's it. But I suppose it looks good on your next resumé.

I filled out a second more thorough application which I bet probably zipped right into that huge database they're talking about. I picture it to be something like the warehouse where they stuck the Arc at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc. So yeah...I'm one of the 300,000 and counting floating in the database. Perhaps I'm better off counting on the lottery.
I was surprised there are almost 8,000 jobs. I had no idea there were that many, but that must include some positions in Homeland Security and the like. I'm still not even sure they switch out their AV people with every administration. It could be they are permanent employees of the White House.
