It's time to award my Jimbos for 2008

In today's column, I look back at the year just ending and give my Jimbo Awards for good and bad things that happened in 2008. You can read the column by clicking here.

My first Jimbo goes to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the Democratic and Republican leadership in the Legislature for not getting a budget deal. Sen. Denise Ducheny, D-San Diego, who chairs the Senate Budget Committee, also got a Jimbo for skipping the special session on the budget so she could go on a junket to India.

Mayor-Elect Ashley Swearengin earned a Jimbo by winning the mayor's race against a crowded field and Mayor Alan Autry got a Jimbo just because he's been so entertaining the past eight years.

So it's your turn. Who involved in politics or public policy in 2008 would you give an award to for either good or bad behavior? I restricted my awards to state and local, but you can expand it nationally. Would Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich be on your list?

It might be a good idea to create another category other than "Jimbos," maybe, "Bimbos." (Bimbo is a term that describes an often attractive, yet dim-witted, unintelligent individual - a twit!).

Jimbos To:

1. The new "gals" in our local political process - Swearengin and Poochigian; If the guys can’t or won’t do it, then the ladies will!

2. The Internet: thanks to the internet and multiple alternate news sources, we are seeing the waning influence of the print media.

3. Legitimate Scientists: The silly environmental wacko argument of "global warming" was finally buried in a well deserved grave.

4. Obama: We now have our "Jimmy Carter." It’s probably necessary to have our "Carter" before we can get our Ronald Reagan!

Bimbos To:

1. The Media: The disgraceful coverage of the presidential campaign. Hard questions were not asked, past associations not explored, media favoritism was rampant, different standards were applied depending on media like or dislike of individual candidates.

2. Any person, who, in the name of tolerance, exhibited religious intolerance towards evangelical Christians.

3. Legitimate Scientists: The silly environmental wacko argument of "global warming" was finally buried in a well deserved grave.

Eh? When did that happen? (Outside of the right-wing blogosphere.)

THAT GUY WHO GOT UP IN FRONT OF A ROOM FULL OF IRAQI JOURNALISTS AND WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE
"GREAT SACRIFICE AMERICA HAS MADE TO THEIR
COUNTRY..." when some guy throws a pair of shoes?
I love a story with a cowardly villain and a fearless hero...I nominate them both
