President-elect Barack Obama has named Sen. Hillary Clinton as his secretary of state today, formalizing what had been reported for the past several days.
Clinton has gone from tough rival in the presidential campaign to a key member of Obama's administration. Here's a news story on the selection.
The selection even got a thumbs up from conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, who called Clinton's selection a "brilliant stroke." The Associated Press reports this remark from Limbaugh:
"You know the old phrase, 'You keep your friends close and your enemies closer?' How can she run for president in 2012? She'd have to run against the incumbent and be critical of him -- the one who made her secretary of state."
The AP says Limbaugh offers his opinion on Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2008," a program that airs Thursday on ABC.
Former President Bill Clinton, quite obviously, was supportive of the selection. This is his statement: She is "the right person for the job," and will work to restore America's image abroad, end the war in Iraq, advance peace and increase the nation's security.
The selection of Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State, a strong, capable, intelligent woman, just proves to me once again that we have selected the right man as president of the US. He is a strong, confident and capable male who is not intimidated or threatened by a strong woman and made his choice on her qualifications and capabilities and not on her gender.
Comment number one is untrue according to Hillary Clinton herself. She repeatedly stated that Obama was not ready to be President. Now suddenly he's ready for prime time? Give me a break!!! The only person that had no idea that her husband was having an affair was Hillary Clinton. Now she has depth and insight? Wow, they both have come a long, long, way!! And in a very, very short time.
I just hope that her "red phone" has a call waiting option. This way, if Bill happens to call for a ride home at the same time a real emergency takes place, she can click over and put Iran on hold for a few minutes.
One, it was just plain dumb for Hillary to give up her senate seat to take a job that she can be dismissed from at any time for any reason.
Two, World Net Daily is reporting that she's constitutionally ineligible for the position, which won't, of course, stop a democrat senate from confirming her.
So I visited the World News Daily website. What a hateful despicable site that is. People ought to be ashamed. And there's so many sites like it. Hate your next-door neighbor but don't forget to say grace.
And yes, I say the same about radical left wing sites too.
I'm curious now - what is the World Nut Daily's "constitutional" argument for her ineligibility?
I went to the World News Daily website out of curiosity. I hadn't realized there were such outlandish propaganda sites out there. I was even more shocked to think people actually would read that stuff and believe it without any critical thinking involved. I wish I hadn't gone to the website because I already have a synical and low opinion of the human race. Then there is Darryl above spouting his sexist opinion about how unqualified Hillary is because she chose to keep her family together and weather a personal storm in a public arena. Then Roxanna - you do realize that Hillary is not looking for job security; she's financially secure. She wants to serve her country and expand her horizons. I don't think Hillary reads your website either. That website... how uniformed I was about how crazy this world has really gotten. My curiosity lead me to even more like it with even nuttier propaganda. Once again I am reminded why I prefer working with dead people. They are so much more sane. Then again what do I know.. according to the website just being Democrat makes me clinically insane.
MOI wonders if Senator Clinton will be baking cookies for world leaders..........how odd that 'pillow talk' between her and former president qualifies her to direct foreign policy abroad...........some sharing she and former president had in that bed at night!
It really doesn't matter if she knew her husband was having an affair or not or that she chose to stand by him. I thin k she will do as good a job as anyone else he could have selected. IO do hate to see Condi go though because she is a very diplomatic woman that can communicate with leaders in the world and I hope to see her come back one day hopefully as the first black woman President.
Kim Tamksley; you should not be surprised that a website like "World News Daily" exists. A goodly portion of the beehive posts fall into the category of "outlandish" rude, ignorant and even neurotically down-beat at times. I see no reason for Senator Clinton to be "constitutionally" unfit for a Cabinet post. But I see that there seem to be a lot of folk who are constitutionally unable to grasp the simple fact that Senator Clinton would not, and should not give a damn about that website and its erstwhile acolytes worshipping at the clay feet of Pharisaical idols. After this post I shall do my housework while listening to my favorite tapes, CDs and LPs.
hahaha! or whatever those large round phonograph records are called. I got oodles of them and I love them. For Christmas I am going to treat myself to one of the things that turn tapes and records into discs. I hope I can muster the gumption to spend so much money on it. But perhaps I would be helping to ease the official recession. And I hope my somewhat cynical humor does not earn me weird response again. But laughter was my medicine hrough my childhood, the war, the hunger, the cold and all those not-asked-for things.
