Democrat Barack Obama held a slight lead in Fresno County after the latest batch of votes were counted on Friday. But Republican John McCain moved back ahead after another round of ballots were tabulated Wednesday afternoon in Fresno County. That puts the county back in the red column. It was red on election night, then blue on Friday and now red. Maybe we're purple.
Here are the latest presidential vote totals in Fresno County:
JOHN MCCAIN, REP, 112,801, 49.10%
BARACK OBAMA, DEM, 112,390, 48.92%
California is a solid blue state based on the vote totals that come from more populous coastal California, with San Francisco and Los Angeles leading the way. Here are the latest statewide presidential vote totals:
Obama, 7,115,794, 60.8%
McCain, 4,373,898, 37.4%
I'm not surprised that McCain won the popular vote in Fresno County. So it's no secret our ag based community has roots from the Deep South, the Midwest and much of the Bible Belt. Judging from the campaign signs of the two candidates. I saw more Obama posters in the City of Fresno, but then again, I saw more McCain posters in the country. So it seems, here again, the rural areas and the urban areas seem to favor certain preferences in candidates.
Worth noting that the count is not over.
There is hope for Fresno yet.
In years to come, folks will remember this election, and the enlightened will know that Senator McCain was a class act that most failed to see, more's the pity.
Time marches on and now one must kick off the dust and march with the new president, the country has not a moment to waste.
To date given the amount of total votes (in Fresno County) the "popular" vote isnt what it seems. The split between the Presidential vote is pretty much equal, 50/50.
